Since there is a popular belief that boxing is dying in America...Do you think it would be smart for more American fighters to become based abroad?...I think this is a good idea since it seem boxing fans love to see new blood.:bbb
Agreed. I wouldnt classify boxing as dying. It still has its fans, the % just isnt the same as it used to be. There's obviously still loads of money to be made.
The boxing period goes in cycles. Even if you're there during a lull, you could wind up being in the middle of a hot period out of nowhere. It makes more sense to balance your options of course, fighting abroad occasionally but making sure you stay relevant in the states.
In terms of development it certainly didn't hurt Winky Wright, although unfortunately it did delay his emergence as a top fighter in America and he was somewhat ignored for a long period. I don't foresee American fighters basing themselves abroad anytime soon though. Except for situations like Brewster or other Heavies who are past it and want to make some dough in Germany.
Maybe not based abroad, but more fights involving Americans should be based here. Even if they ain't fighting a euro fighter. Like Margo v Mosley did 20,000 at the Staples i believe. I think it woulda done more in the UK imo, plus it helps grow the sport more.
Even in the HW division? Have you seen how big the tv interest is and the amount of people in attendance when the Klitschkos fight in Germany?
I think Brits are generally too nationalistic to take someone in who is not one of their own. I dont think Mayweather gets this. I saw his twitter page and he was saying "so how many of my UK fans gonna be coming to my next fight" like he is anticipating a Hatton like following, my advice, big shock in store for him.:deal
no not in the heavyweight division but the overall quality of the fighters that are based in the USA is much better than anywhere else in the world. Even the best from other countries are often based in the USA
