We all know that there is a query with the handwraps. Whether there was a problem or not with the wraps there was no shame in losing to Margarito and Cotto came back and avenged that loss. Margarito beat Sergio Martinez who beat Pavlik who beat Taylor who beat Hopkins if you go down that logic.
Cotto won many world title fights, took the 0 from many top fighters and won world titles in 4 weight classes. Thats nothing short of great when you look at the names Cotto beat -

    Mosely
    Margarito
    Quintana
    Corley
    Urkal
    Judah
    Malignaggi
    Torres
    Ndou
    Maussa
    Pinto
    Clottey
    Foreman
    Branco
    Martinez

You could add a few more good names into that

The incontinent fab four.. They only fought when they were wearing adult diapers & drooling cup a soups lol Mosley slurs more words than Sloth from the Goonies & PAC was a politician ha ha ha

JMM, Morales, PAC, Barrera those were the 00s fab four.. Mosley's peers were Oscar, Forrest etc

he needed more than these names to be great. These barely make him hall of fame. Margarito he lost to more than he beat him. Martinez had a knee injury.. Judah. a very good fighter but inconsistent. Mosley was his best win but Mosley was on the backside of his career. I mean I am talking Mosley is his best win. It is not a great great resume for an all time great. How do you rate a person great. Can you match that person with anyone in the history of boxing and they could win.. And Cotto looks like he loses most of those.

the fab 4 of the 1980s were a rare bunch from different weights except for Ray and Tommy. But the stories were all great, and then add in Benitez who was in the record books early with his first title. He was the fab5 had he fought Hagler.

He did more than enough in my opinion. Obviously not yours. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
Martinez had a bad knee but before Cotto took the 0 from several decent fighters.
Do you not recall that there may be a query with the hand wraps in the Margarito fight? Or that Cotto beat Margarito in a return.
Some felt Cotto deserved the nod against Canelo.
I dont know if I think Mosely was his best win. There are several wins of Cottos that I struggle to put above the other.
Undefeated Quintana was a good win

There's a perculiar irony that a group of wankers on this forum refer to themselves as the Fab 4 :D

There are some good attempts so far at identifying other Fab 4s since Hagler, Leonard, Hearns and Duran. But that we can't seem to nail it just reinforces what an era that was. One that I doubt will ever be repeated.

Its a shame Marquez and Morales never fought. That would have been a hell of a fight

Marquez was avoided like the plague in his prime. Morales and Barrera got all the attention, but when Steward advised Hamed on who to fight he basically said anyone but Marquez

YEah Marquez was great. He got his first opportunity against F Norwood who was a talented FW and I wondered how Marquez would comeback, but he did brilliantly

great is for guys who you can put against other eras. We know that Cotto would lose to most greats. Not great defense.. Good power. Fought well vs. lower levels.. took beatings, had heart but when he was beaten he was almost helpless. that is a great?

who they fought and when - forget belts, who's '0' he took, and the like
cotto was always a second tier fighter. never close to great

and rock, paper, scissors doesn't work in boxing
you only get credit for who you beat, not the 'knock on' effect that might look good, but doesn't count for anything

Cotto took the 0 of Malignaggi, Quintana, Torres, Pinto, Maussa, Foreman
All decent wins. Now if we go by your logic of forgetting belts which I think is fair to do at times, Quintana went on to beat P Williams, Maussa went on to beat Harris, Malignaggi had a few decent wins etc and some feel he deserved the nod over Alvarez.
    Thats impressive

it's impressive for the fighters who went on to beat bigger names, but it in no way adds gloss to cotto's career because he himself didn't beat them

??? What are you on about?

So you think the fighters Cotto beat were impressive but not Cotto?
So Cotto beat undefeated Quintana was not impressive even though Quintana 2 fights later beat undefeated P Williams?
Cotto beat Martinez who in 4 of his previous 5 fights had taken the 0 from world class comp as well as beating Williams and Pavlik
