the fab four vs prime roy jones

At once?

I would favor the fab four. Roy Jones usually leaves his back exposed.

 

At MW he beats them all imo. The question is who will last the distance. I think Hearns may give him the most trouble, but are perhaps the least likely one to last the distance. I don't think Duran will either. That will be a one-sided beat down. Hagler will last, but Leonard? Hard to say. Probably not.

 

Duran is all wrong for Jones Jr stylistically, i feel. And is more proven at MW.

Leonard and Hearns are overwhelmed and outmatched physically and would probably both get stopped. Hagler would likely be outpointed, but i could definatley see him catching Jones late. He is the only one with the chin that would hold up against the speed and power that the huge MW Jones Jr brings to the table.

 

Well, Hagler is the only one I see beating Jones. Jones lacks the experience to deal with him there. Hearns could prove to be a difficult task but Roy´s speed and power should result in a mid to late round stoppage which Hearns ahead on the cards. Leonard is more complete and skilled but outsized and outspeeded (was he ever before during his prime?) here. I guess Jones would stop him too while beeing ahead on the cards. Leonard would make him work hard at times though. Duran has no chance. Everything is against him here but skill and that´s not enough, I do see him surving though.

 

Jones should beat them all emphatically, Hearns has the biggest chance with his power, speed and accuracy, he has the chance for the KO, a prime Jones chin is better though especially at MW, Hearns jab may also neutralise Jones speed a little

 

Prime RJJ beat them all. Weight advantage on his side.

 

Jones beats them all...only Duran and Leonard easily though.

Hagler and Hearns at their best at these weights give him a pretty tough time.

 

I can see all 4 of them having a shot at Roy's weaknesses and making him overly tentative. They all had a good jab and movement, which usually discomforts Roy; Duran was a master at feinting, which always threw Jones off, and had great fast-pace-setting footspeed; Hearns had the reach, height, and movement to make Jones think twice about advancing on his power; Leonard had the physical talents and technical skills to consistently set up shots; Hagler was a tough enough and technically sound boxer to give him trouble over 12.

Jones likely wins against each, but I have no trouble imagining their styles and gifts working well against Jones' potential weaknesses. People exaggerate Jones' vulnerability to over-respecting things like speed, a jab, and power (Griffin 1, Tarver 1) but they do show something.

 

At mw Jones beats all but Hagler who'd catch up with him at some point. Hagler is a far scarier prospect than a greenish Hopkins and a weight drained Toney. The other 3 were obviously more effective at lower weights.

 

Who has the power and skill to get in and crack Roy's chin if the fights are at MW?

If you are talking Super MW or Lt. Heavy, obviously the Fab 4 have no chance at all.

 

At MW he KO's Duran

At MW he TKO's Leonard

At MW he either KO's Hearns, or Hearns KO's him...Definitely A lot more likely Jones KO'ing Hearns though

At MW I see Jones winning a close desicion. Or Hagler winning by late TKO.

 

hard to figure. The only guy who was prime at middleweight was Hagler. Hagler at middleweight beats him, and I think Hagler is the only one I think for sure would beat Roy. I think Hagler mindset of destruct and destroy would get to Roy if Marvin came to fight. Hearns vs. Roy is a toss up on who lands first. Tommy's jab would give Roy trouble. I would edge toward Hearns, but Roy had some good power also at 160. Leonard and Duran would probably lose decisions. Surprisingly. I think Duran has a better chance to beat Roy than Leonard just on styles. He had a harder right hand than Ray did which if it landed could hurt Roy, but it probably would not land. It would be Duran looking slow and Roy winning rounds and winning and easy decision.

 

I go with the consensus Hagler is the only one with a decent shot, his tough chin, good workrate, good boxing skill, willingness to break someone down, would I think be more effective than the style of Leonard, who just seems a little too small to crack Jones. Hearns might get a flukish KO knockout win, but there's nothing to indicate a prime Jones had his equilibrium problems back then, and a Jones KO is probably far more likely to occur first.

But yeah, Hopkins had NO problem going the distance with Jones and he only got better, even though he didn't win many rounds clearly. So Hagler could probably go the distance and seems to me to have slightly more power than Hopkins ever did, being just as tough, if not as tall.
