Watched this on DVD last night

 

what made that era so great was that they were all willing to fight each other. Floyd should have taken notice of this

 

Robinson may not of been willing to fight Hearns, and most would say he'd go ape**** on all five of these guys (including Benitez). Doesn't that irritate you, MAG?

Leonard also waited Hagler to get older so he can jump and run from him.. nhf, i respect Leonard but they had to do it earlier!

anyone can say he would easily beat those guys. I would doubt it. I think Robinson beats Leonard easier than he does Hearns. Stylistically.

 

Yeah, Robinson. You think he'd make a concentrated effort to get Hearns in the ring?

Hagler also never even entertained the idea of fighting Spinks. Not a whole lot of difference really, aside from Leonard actually beating Hagler as a heavy underdog. Even at the points he stood with him, he got the better of exchanges and Hagler couldn't walk through his 'pitty patty' punches. What's up with that?

 

I know it's probably been said before, but Four Kings by George Kimball is worth a read.

Just think about how Duran was willing to fight Hagler but Pac and Floyd did not fight each other, not to mention that they would never step in with someone like Hagler!

 

I think he would fight Hearns. Robinson didn't seem to be a guy who ducked anyone. Not a guy with that many fights, although most of those guys were not near the Leonard,Hearns,Duran level.

I would have loved seeing Marvin have the guts to fight Spinks. Many people say he was too small, but that what the intrigue is. I remember when Starling fought Nunn in 1990. When the bell rang for round one, Nunn's size advantage over Starling was ridiculous. Huge difference and still Starling went 12 rounds.

 

He'd fight whoever if they were standing directly in his way (such as holding a world title) or spending a lengthy amount of time as a clear-cut #1 challenger. There were definitely some fights that very well could've been made that he opted not to take, most notably Charley Burley-- a fighter who from what we can gather (there's minscule film) had better defensive skills than Hearns, but didn't possess the same physical attributes and insane power that made Hearns one of the most dangerous 147-154 lb fighters in history.

They definitely were not on the same level as far as talent with two exceptions: Kid Gavilan (Absolutely Superb) and Henry Armstrong, who was still very viable though fading.

This could get you in trouble. Never seen any other past-fighter (say, from 15+ years ago) get the respect Hagler does on this forum. It's mind boggling and based largely on two fights and the fact he had a granite chin at 160.

 

it makes a difference. Winning or losing does not matter really. When two greats fight one will lose, but not to fight someone should diminish Floyd's legacy.
