Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns.

Fighters who get discussed regularly on ESB. Rightly so. This isn't rating them in terms of greatness, but rate them in terms of your favourites. The fighter you have as your number one vote for him in the poll.

    I'll kick it off.

    1. Roberto Duran
    2. Marvin Hagler
    3. Thomas Hearns

............No contest. There's only one fighter on the list that I count as a favorite; Hagler.

Leonard was too aware of the camera. Hearns fought for the Kronk team, and I never liked the idea of fighters fighting out of huge, well-known stables......made it seem moe like a team sport that way. Duran I never liked as a fighter.

I like all 4, it's hard to rank them in any particular order. Offhand, I like Ray and Tommy, as they seem very amiable personality-wise. However, if I were to base it on pure fascination with a respective career, I'd say Hagler and Duran.

I liked all 4 except I liked Hagler a little less than the rest, I mean I understand the guy had a hard path up to the title but even when he won he was bitter as ****.

Duran. He was a lightweight competing with these guys. I don't know of any other modern lightweight to do anything like that. Whitaker and Mosley made it to 154, but not 160. Duran defeated Barkley.

I was reading an interview with Ray Arcel once. I won't directly quote anything, because it was over a decade ago and is no longer in front of me. Arcel said that Ray Robinson and Roberto Duran just seemed like they knew how to fight. There was very little teaching involved.

    Tommy Hearns
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Marvin Hagler
    Roberto Duran*

*Durans' fans excessive whining and excuses for their fights has caused me to harbour a dislike for the fighter. It shouldn't be the case but some of the **** thats been said or used as an excuse is ridiculous. I just don't like him anymore.

    Roberto Duran
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Wilfred Benitez

[Ask me tommorow and I'll flip flop the list....]
Anyone else consider WB as part of the pack?
Which other fighter besides Wilfred also fought at least 3 of the 4?

    1) Tommy Hearns.

I think Tommy is a genuinely nice guy away from the ring. He was a good loser, and never complained about a fight that he lost. It also helps that he gave me some of my fondest memories as a fight fan.

    2) Marvin Hagler.

When I was growing up, Hagler was the man. He was the ultimate professional, and a fighter who truly valued his titles and what they stood for. I respect that.
Some of his alleged out-of-the-ring activities disappointed me though.

    3) Ray Leonard.
I never really took to him as a fighter, but I can see the obvious quality he possessed. I don't like the way he dictated the terms of some of his fights though, and his claim to 5 world titles is dubious.
As a person I am quite apathetic to him; I can take him or leave him.

    4) Roberto Duran.

Great fighter, not such a nice guy. Spitting on Leonard and one or two other opponents is really appalling, and he's never given a victorious opponent an ounce of credit. Basically, I think he's a sore loser.
