The fact that Crawford has never even had a close fight is genuinely scary

So we all know hes undefeated with a 40-0 record. But whats crazy to me is that none of those 40 wins were won by SD or MD. And even in the ones where he won by UD, he never lost more than 4 rounds meaning his closest fight ever was a UD where he won 8 of the 12 rounds against Ricky Burns. He never even had a 7-5 fight. I mean porter vs crawford was close (bud was up by a point) until the 10th round where he decided to knock porter down twice in the span of a minute.

Even undefeated guys like floyd mayweather had some close fights (castillo, maidana, de la hoya). Does this have anything to do with the caliber of their opponents? Every great fighter had at least one loss or one close fight. I know theres guys like beterbiev, stevenson, inoue, and bivol that also never had close fights but they havent fought 40 times.

of course if your resume is not level... that's what happens when your resume sucks... floyd has so many names in his record he came across so many styles that it's impossible not to have close fights

He lost 4 rounds to Kavaliauskas and was dropped by him. He lost between 3-5 rounds to Gamboa. He easily lost 4, maybe even all 5 rounds to Dulorme before the come from behind KO. He even dropped between 3-4 rounds to Benavidez and he was being outboxed by Brook. By all rights, he should've been down on the cards against Porter, who took 5-6 rounds off of him. So the idea that he's had no close fights is inaccurate.

Inoue's been far more dominant than Crawford.

Exactly. :deal: I still can’t believe the ref didn’t score that a knockdown. Had he done his job correctly… the fight may have swung in Kavaliauskas favor. Crawford may have tried to force something in return afterwards and ran into another shot! Or Kavaliauskas may have built more momentum with the added confidence. We’ll never know.

The problem with these lower weights is there’s always some virtual no name rabid maddog that comes out of nowhere to spoil the fun.

It happened to Gonzales, it happened to Lomachenko, it’ll happen to Inoue.

If an old Donaire gave him a run for his money his days are numbered being undefeated

The fact that 4 of his opponents retired afterwards because they're old and shot to pieces is genuinely scary

I think OP meant fights that went the distance. I don’t think losing rounds is a big deal when you’re focusing on power and timing.

I think you mean, bailing himself out with his power against opponent's he can't outbox.;)

Even if that is the case I don’t think that’s a problem. A sign of a good fighter is always having a back up plan.

A sign of a good fighter is not needing to repeatedly fall back on a backup plan.;)

I understand he had close fights before KO's but unfortunately KO's are an automatic loss. If you get KO'd in the 11th round but win 7 of the 10 rounds before that KO, you still lose. You can argue porter won 5 rounds but its disappointing that he didn't make it the distance because thats what counts. Stuff like this really emphasizes the difficulty of this sport.

What’s scary is what’s as supposed to be his toughest WW fight was actually his easiest. That’s great preparation

Its crazy to think that guys like shawn porter, amir khan, jose benavidez jr, etc put up a better fight than spence. Do you really think crawford got that much better in a year? He's turning 36 in a month
