What we know about this fight based on quotes from DiBella and Hennessy over the last several days: 1. Hennessy claims to have offered Taylor $1.6 million to come to the UK sometime in April, with no television guarantee for US audiences. Showtime has said they don't want to air the fight on a tape delay, meaning unless it happens at 2 a.m. GMT, Showtime won't be a part of it. 2. DiBella claims to have offered Froch $650,000 to come to the states March 28, plus allowing Froch to keep the British tv money (about $800,000), for a total of $1.45 million. The fight would be aired on Showtime in the US, and probably on ITV in the UK (according to Hennessy they are still trying to make tv arrangements for this date). So we have a $1.6 million offer to Taylor to fight in the UK, and a $1.45 million offer to Froch to fight in the US. IMO the 1.45 figure is much more meaningful to Froch than the 1.6 figure is to Taylor. Taylor's used to making this kind of money and more, while this would be the biggest payday of Froch's career BY FAR. If he is truly being offered almost a million and a half dollars to come to the states and fight a US star live on showtime, he should jump on it. Clearly he wants/needs this fight way worse than Taylor, as evident by the fact that he can't seem to close his yap.
Yes, Froch should take the risk. Why? Because he is the one who has run his mouth constantly. Over the past several months Froch has yapped non-stop about 4 different fighters who would all beat his ass. Let's see the man step forward and try to back his mouth up.
Mick Hennessy has been quoted as saying they would be happy with March 28th date in the US if he can sort the UK TV rights for that date.
What's the logistics apart from flying the commentary crew to the US and taking the host feed? No more of a logistical problem than all those grand prix races they broadcast, actually probably a lot less.
I just hope it works out. Maybe I'm wrong about Froch. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about a fighter! However, my take on the guy is that he is a Zuniga/Miranda level fighter who was in the right place at the right time to pick up a major title. Over the past several months Froch has talked non-stop about Calzaghe, Kessler, Taylor, and Pavlik. Now I'm a fan of all those guys except Slappy Joe, and my opinion is that all 4 of them would expose Froch for the C+ -- B- fighter he is. I may be a bit biased in some of my picks here, but I am far from alone on them. Froch has a lot of proving to do, and considering his age, he only has a short amount of time to do it. That means he has to take some risks
I have only seen him vs Pascal. Ugly affair. Even TFFP lowered his rating after that. The WBC was trying to hand that title to Taylor. I think that has as much to do with Froch's positioning as anything else. Give Taylor a beatable guy with a good record. Backfired on them though.
I would think having the needed bandwidth available would be the biggest thing. They would be relying on someone else to carry their feed. I'm not in that industry so I have NO clue how long that takes to work out.
I have not followed this very close, for two reason...1)I dont really care about this fight...2) it isnt going to happen.. Froch is talking and talking and talking...Then he rejects offers...Enough said
Yeah they've shown every grand prix live for about the last ten years. That takes in Brazil, Australia, China, Singapore, USA, Canada....
