You can't discount the close synchrony between the Fall of the Curtain and the rise of the Eastern Euros in boxing. But the fall of boxing from American grace and the ascendency of lucrative big man sports in the US, is part of the reason too.

The question should not be whether one or the other situation is the only valid reason for the current HW climate. The more accurate question is, how much does each factor, and other possible factors, contribute to this rise in the prominance of Eastern Euros.
