What has happened? Was being touted as clear favourite for the super six and p4p top ten what does everyone think? Exposed? Overrated? Doesn't suit 168? Other?
I don't think he was ever in anyone P4P top 10. Just think he is to small for 168lbs and like allot of German fighters very well matched. A skillful boxer would have always been able to out box him. In the end the downfall for Abraham was he was to ambitious. He didn't wanna be another Sven Ottke picking up dodgy wins in Germany. He wanted to go to the US and prove himself agaisnt the best fighters in the world. Unfortunatley he wasn't up to it but at least he gave it a go, simular to Ricky Hatton.
Fair play to Arthur, he's always just been fairly sturdy with a big dig, at least we are aware of how good he actually was/is now, better for boxing purists that he came up short.
Abraham was just another German hometown hypejob. His only mistake was he tried to prove the world wrong and tried to fight outside of Germany.
you have to credit AA for stepping up to SMW to show his ambition like has been said above, neither Sturm nor Pavlik wanted to unify despite his promoters attempts, so in order to move on he had no other option. Fair play to him for that as he could have continued to make upteen more defence of his IBF title. The best thing for him to do is to drop back down to middle now, but he's clearly not the same fighter anymore as these losses will have knocked the confidence right out of him, if he ever did end up facing Sturm (which could happen if he beats Macklin and given Sturm's not with Universum anymore) I couldn't see AA winning that one either.
I don't remember him being clear favourite for the Super 6. If i remember correctly Kessler was the favourite before it began, and was overtaken by Ward then when he beat him. Abraham looked very good in the Taylor fight. He even looked decent enough in the second half of the Dirrell fight, and i think had a decent chance of winning that if it hadn't been for the punch on the ground, he was really starting to up the pressure. He's been shown though that if you keep him at bay successfully, he has no plan B. I still think he is a decent operator and could make a good matchup with the right opponent.
His downfall was Carl Froch and Andre Ward. Two big strong fighters who can box better than him but also land enough hurtfull punches to stop him coming forward. Taylor and Dirrell outboxed him for the early stages of their fights with him but they weren't landing enough hurtfull punches so Abraham was willing and able to walk through them. Abraham is a very tough fighter who just lacks the extra something to beat elite level boxers. He's unfortunate that the super middleweight division has some quality operators at the moment.
Did he really give it a go though? Could he look back at some of these super 6 fights and say, "well I gave it everything that night, but it wasn't enough"? He's been battered from pillar to post in his last 3 outings. I thought he was hopeless in the Andre Ward fight aswell. He only threw caution to the wind in the final round when he was way behind on points - again.
When AA made his way to the ring against Ward the commentators were saying how relaxed and focused he looked. I would say he looked disinterested, like it was juat a payday for him. He seems mentally shot to me. Against Ward he looked like he had forgotten how to punch properly, flailing away with ineffective arm punches, not really looking at all like the dangerous fighter he use to be. He may have been inactive against Froch, but at least when he threw punches, they were with bad intentions. I think he's simply shot.
