Is it worth going to a club like Repton or West Ham ABC i can imagine that the coaching is second to none but my brother told me that he reckons that they have probabley got around 100 members so as a beginner would you even get noticed. I started boxing at the beginning of december when i was very overweight (81kg) at 5ft 7ins and ive trained really hard i couldnt run to the end of the road when i first began but now im doing five miles daily plus interval sprints and now weigh in 65kg. Ive been sparring at my club now but i dont thinks its a very good one to be honest my brother said ive improved dramatically when he took me on the pads but i think thats due to me watching ametaur fights on the internet. Ive been sparring lads who've had four or five bouts and been holding my own im very strong for my weight but to be honest i aint being shown technical skills i dont see the point in just chucking people in for sparrong and hoping for the best a lot of beginners have come down that club and quit after one round of sparring because they cant or rather havent been shown how to throw a one two and are getting smashed by the carded boxers please help what shall i do can anyone recomend good club
You are in an awkward scenario perhaps, a gym of 100 or a gym of 10......yet the gym of 100 has the more noteable coaching/trainers. A good coach wont not notice a good fighter though. Yet a mediocre coach may not have such a stable and could bring on a lesser fighter moreso. Check the clubs the finalists represent in the English Am finals perhaps..... Hope this helps
Interestingly, a lot of the good Fighters didnt start at the big clubs, they moved there to be recognised :yep.
