Very soon, Victor Ortiz's former hometown paper will reveal some gaps and flat out untruths in Ortiz's rag to riches story. One example is that Victor claims to have once lived on the streets and that he had to sell drugs to survive. A number of long time Garden City law enforcement officers and Ortiz family members say that this is blatantly untrue.
Dunno about the dealer thing but I know he comes from a broken home and had a very rough chiuldhood and adolescence.
So, if the police and his family members think it's untrue, maybe he was pretty good at it. After all, not getting caught is one of the main goals in that business...
Garden City is a small town. If Ortiz had once sold drugs here it would be common knowledge . It isn't.
With 24/7 with Mayweather and Ortiz soon to begin. I thought it might be best to set the record straight. The very father that Victor says abandoned him and beat him, also brought him to the boxing gym every time the doors were open. An alcoholic, no doubt but hardly the monster he is portrayed to be.
from what I understand, he sold pills and over small time narcotics at high school/college, Im guessing to fund his education/extra money to support himself. Just because he done a bit of small time dealing doesnt mean he was caught doing it, his family members might not even know he did. But at the same time being a drug dealer doesnt make you a bad ass. Im at university in the UK, I have a couple of friends the same age as me (22) they sell substances on the side to fellow students looking for a good time, they keep the money to fund their tution fees and pay rent, as well as having jobs, they are good guys, and I wouldnt class them as criminals or tough nuts. Modern media makes drug dealing sound as bad as assault or robbery, in most cases, its not.
