I dont understand this forums fascination with "chins".

If someone gets knocked out,hes a "glass chin joke" etc.
Considering its the one part of a fighters arsenal that they have little ability to improve, you would think people wouldnt hold so much stead in it.

Also being knockwed out, does not make you a "joke". If there guys get knocked out by a world class boxer,it does not make youa "joke". Anyone whos been in the ring with a half decent amateur knows how hard a good fighter can hit. Imagine what a top class pro hits like. (Thats part of the reason why,the anti-Dirrell comments **** me off so much.HE WAS HIT WHILE KNEELING,WITH NO WAY OF DEFENDING HIMSELF BY ONE OF THE HARDEST P4P PUNCHERS IN THE WORLD!!!! ITS WOULD BE LIKE GETTING HIT BY A BASEBALL BAT!)

So what are other peoples thoughts on this?
Why are chins given such precedence here. I dont hear anyone calling out people for having bad jabs,or fighters whose footwork isnt up to scratch. Things that are for the most part far more important.

Dirrell doesn't have a glass jaw. He was faking it.

Because a good chin is a fundamental part of being a good fighter. Guys can get along without a great chin (see Haye), but its one of the ideal characteristics. It's no different to punching power. A good boxer should be able to hit hard, but that isn't the case with alot of boxers (see Malignaggi)

Attributes such as these are different to skills, and represent the intrinsic quality or toughness of the fighter, as opposed to how good they are. Perhaps it is because of our deeply buried primal nature that we often prefer 'tough' over skillful, which would explain why Hatton had so many fans and why Mayweather is considered by many to be boring to watch.

There's no fascination. Punch resistance is an integral part of a boxer's makeup. Due to the idiotic Deniers & the "That punch would have koed anyone" brigade, Chincheckers are necessary to balance out the idiocy with a bit of logic & common sense.

The founder of the Chinchecker Movement, Zakman, can tell you more.

Its the ONE attribute a fighter cannot improve on!

A guy could have sublime skills,be incredibly dedicated, supremely conditioned, have the heart of a lion.etc, etc, etc but because he gets knocked out morons will call him a "joke"

Some guy who gets the **** beat out of him for 12 rounds,is converesly considered a friggin hero.
I just dont get that mentality

    And you know this....HOW??
Because it took a second for him to go over?

How many times have you seen a guy punched when he was standing and not fall for a second or two???

Its called a delayed knock down....HAPPENS.ALL.THE.TIME.

This one just happenned when the guy was kneeling down, which makes the blow worse, becuase he wasnt expecting it,and because he cant roll with a punch like when hes on his feet.

Oh yeah, and Abraham hits like a truck and had time to tee him up and unleash his full power.

Well, there is the theory of increasing neck muscle mass aiding punch resistance, but that's neither here nor there.

Of course a fighter who takes regular naps is a joke, if he can't take a punch, WTF is he doing as a pro fighter?

Who the F*ck would listen to Zakman? He's a charlie zelenoff fan. If he thinks charlies a good fighter than he has no idea what boxing is or what its about. Back to the subject, having a good chin is very important, but a fighter shouldnt be dismissed if he doesnt have a chin of stone. It means he will have other attributes to make up for it, how else would he win fights?

No one can deny that Zakman's a bit of an eccentric. His relentless Zelenoff support is surely a troll job. Only Zakman knows why he keeps up this bizarre act.

Yes, what a boxer like Amir Khan has achieved since his loss should be greatly admired imo. That must take a lot of mental strength to go with his talent. However, a more ardent Chinchecker may be not so easily impressed.

You'll notice the posters who are obsessed with chins - such as Zakman, HoHomeJerome and the one with an incredibly small head - are the posters who aren't taken seriously here.

Yeah but I personally won't get too caught up in in the chin checking just because having boxed myself I know that it's not necessarily someones chin or the other guys power. In a fight accuracy and timing can be enough to ko someone, its not always due to them having a bad chin. I used to think khan was all hype until I saw the 10 round of the maidana fight. I'm still not a big fan of his, but I respect his ability and what he's done.
