Among heavyweights, I was impressed with the speed and quickness of Mike Dokes's left hook at his fastest. John L. Gardiner was the EBU HW champion, but he was really a tomato can for Dokes when they met in Detroit. In that bout though, Dokes did not telegraph his left hook, and was using it the way most skilled boxers otherwise use a jab.

Gardiner, who had just become the third man after Holmes and Dokes to kayo Ocasio, was flattened for the count in round four with Dokes's hooks. Regardless of the competition, it was the best performance I ever saw Dokes produce in the ring, his Ali/Cleveland Williams moment.

Right. I tend to overlook Lynn Ball, because Dokes got him out so quickly. Gardner was able to hang with Dokes just long enough so we could see Dynamite's delivery of his hook repeatedly, yet Gardner wasn't so durable that Doke's couldn't display the power of his hook (as he could not do with Cobb). So Gardner is the match I tend to think of, when regarding Dokes at his best. (I missed his five round kayo over Franco Thomas, but I would imagine it was similarly impressive.)

The Thomas fight was impressive at the end, but I think he was entering that fight on short notice, and I think he had the flu or something, he said he did it as a favor for Don King, who had done a lot for him.

    morrison-tucker was amazing
it just looked like a jab but in the replay...it was a well formed left hand hooked punch.

Honourable mention to De La Hoya's left hook that knocked Vargas down.
