I agree with you on general principle, & all of the examples except Ruiz. He is the only one you let be overweight, & I would say at about 1/3 body fat at 265. That is too much, even for Ruiz. Sure, due to style & being fat forever, he could be best overweight. But not more than ~25% BF: even old Foreman was not that heavy. At 256/257 lbs. vs. Morrison & Holyfield, he was likely a bit under that-since he was taller & had more muscle than Ruiz. That Ruiz is good even obese does not mean he would not be better *less* fat. Workrate. Footspeed. Endurance. 235 would be ~25% for hin. Still too fat for most HWs-good for him though. But no, we cannot say Ruiz would be better as fat as he was. He was just good despite even in the first, "lighter" fight, being 30 or so lbs. above the forgiving 235 standard I posited.
His fat matters when there is a mobile boxer. Anyone willing to trade with him may make weight gain a moot point. I think his blubber wouldn't cause fatigue in that sense, he'd bang for 12 rounds if the foe has a durable chin.
Well...It would make less difference then. Though I doubt his endurance & work rate could be completely uneffected. And most at least top level boxers-especially after the recent Joshua bout-will know to move around. It would be a terrible strategy to hope a fighter & his trainers does not have the basic sense to be mobile. I think he is just used to doing well heavy. And he likely is a bit addicted to eating like he does, & his metabolism a bit out of wack from his lifetime habits. But I like him as an underdog man of the people & his non-standard look. He just needs to get advice & follow a sensible program to moderate the weight & address his psychology, just be somewhat chubby, & not again wandering back into the clinically obese level.
Ruiz wife is plenty to keep him warm in his new climate controlled mansion & Super-Sized Heated Water Bed! Can you imagine those 2 rolling around in that bed covered in food? I wonder if Ruiz could Pork up to 400 pounds of pure Blubber to challenge Dustin Nichols once they let him out of prison?!
with all the $$$ Ruiz made for following AJ around for 12 rounds eating jabs he can open a chain of All You Can Eat Buffet Restaurants!! and live High Off the Hog unless a bunch of Dustin Nichols types clean them out daily and make it go Bankrupt!!!
Those mince pies looked extra succulent this year. Apparently the blob Ruiz thought the presents under the tree were food, and gobbled them all up, before the kids went downstairs to open them.
First of all, props to AJ who trained his heart out and came in and faught a smart fight. I didnt know he could box like that. Had not seen him do that before. Ruiz. Ruiz not only looked fat. He looked untrained. He looked like he didnt spend time in the gym. He even said his arms felt heavy and he could not put together combinations. I think it was not only because he was heavier. The heavier was a partly a symptom of the guy not putting the time in the gym to come in sharp. The dude showed a complete lack of discipline going into the biggest fight of his life. He deserves all the guff he is getting.
