    Hi Buddy.
Same for me Noel, plus I worked for many years in Smithfield the big meat market in London, and many an ex boxer found work there after their career was over, seeing all those fighters, and the stories they told got me hooked, the names will not mean much to almost all of you, but there was : Ron Barton, Tommy McGovern, Freddie King, Alby Hollister ( put Turpin on the canvas ) Stan Davies, Mickey Walker, Johnny McCleave, Timmy Giles, and too many to recall, I was a small spoty 15 year old, still trying to get into a pub... happy days.
    stay safe matey.

I’d seen fights in the 70s and very early 80s as a small kid/bigger kid, that I enjoyed watching, but the fight that gripped my attention more than any other up to that point and cemented my love of boxing and reinforced my admiration for my then hero Larry, was…

    Larry Holmes v Gerry Cooney

Impressive list1 But I recommend a few Wilfredo Gomez and Aaron Pryor bouts as well! And Carbajal-Gonzalez 1 and all the Chacon-Limon bombfests.

I' m a bit of a casual but the one I remember is the one I have no clue what the fight was. I'm in the UK; pretty sure it was on World of Sport with the legendary Dickie Davies. It was title fight in Italy I think between an Italian and I think a Mexican - definitely Latino. Small guys I think but could be wrong. Think the Italian was the challenger. First round the Italian came out, real pumped up full of energy and worked the champ around the ring, I think he put him down. End of the round he went back to the corner like he had won the fight. Second or third round the Mexican fella started to catch the Italian more and more, and the knockout punch, was straight out of street fighter; in my imagination the Italian went 12 feet in the air. This must have been 1970's -1980's but that has always stuck in my mind.

I have indeed seen all of the above, I watched that entire list in a single month.

Although, I must say, your recommendations are absolutely excellent ones.

I didn't grow up with an TV station that really showed boxing. No one in my family was interested in boxing either. But, my first boxing related memory was watching Buster Douglas referee a pro wrestling match between Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan, in which he "knocked out" Randy Savage and went on to celebrate with Hogan.

After that I became really interested in boxing and George Foreman in particular. I always was interested in seeing him on TV. I'd also look at Ring Magazine when I'd be at the grocery store.

I became a sailor and finally was able to watch boxing live, plus the internet became more available. From there I followed Miguel Cotto's career. My ship had lots of Puerto Ricans, so it was a lot of fun talking about fights with them. My interest just kept growing naturally I guess. Ha-ha!

My dad was a huge fan so it was always on TV in our house. In the mid-80s as a teenager in the UK I started to pay attention….Barry McGuigans title fights, Honeyghan upsetting Curry, Bruno losing to Witherspoon, Hagler v Hearns etc.
But the real turning point for me was when I stayed up till 4am at the tender age of 14 to watch Tyson vs Berbick live. For all his faults, Tyson was the first heavyweight champion I really followed and it was just downright exciting watching him unify the belts. Hagler vs Leonard followed in ‘87, the rise to stardom of JC Chavez, Nigel Benn appearing on the scene and I was hooked.

I remember that, George! I think you ended up watching more fights in a year or two than I’d probably watched in my life.
