I'm not sure if this has already been a thread, I'll be surprised if it hasn't to be honest, but I just have to mention the film 'The Fighter'. I actually bought it on Blu Ray in October last year but for one reason or another I only got round to watching it this morning, and I was simply blown away by it. This is a boxing forum, and this is simply one of the best (arguably the best) boxing films ever made, and although I'm aware that most of the guys on here will have seen it I feel it is my duty to recommend it just in cas someone hasn't. If by chance there is antone left out there who hasn't heard of the film it follows the career of Mickey Ward and his relationship with his family, specifically with his brother/trainer Dicky Eklund (a crazy character who once gave a prime Sugar Ray Leonard alot of problems). The film is currently available on Amazon at a good price: The DVD is £5.19: [ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Fighter-DVD-Mark-Wahlberg/dp/B004L53C8M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346418523&sr=8-1[/ame] Or the Blu Ray is £7.99: [ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Fighter-Blu-ray-Mark-Wahlberg/dp/B004L53BXI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1346420683&sr=8-3[/ame] The acting is superb, the actors themselves look and sound remarkably like the real thing; many of the people on the screen are playing themselves, for instance Mickey Wards trainer is played by the real man. For me the highlight is when he goes to London to fight Shea Neary; the fight is so well filmed and the actor who plays Neary is spot on, they even got a guy who looks the spit of Mickey Vann to ref! The fights are brilliantly filmed in video rather than digital, this give them a grainy look, making them look they did on TV, and they brilliantly edit in the commentary from the original HBO/ESPN/Showtime broadcasts with Foreman, Jones Jnr, Leonard, Lampley, Merchant etc. Overall a really fantastic film and one every boxing fan should watch, if not own! And watch out for the sisters, imagine living with that lot!!!!
I watched it a little while ago with my missus, decent watch. She liked it more then me . Gutted it didn't have the Gatti fight i think that's the biggest let down. Lacked a bit of quality on the boxing side of things but it's a decent watch overall.
Rocky is the best boxing film, and always always will be. I enjoyed the one with that guy out of gladiator..... Russell Crowe..? But still, none of these films will ever evoke the passion and feeling that Rocky did.
Though it was tired, hackneyed and obvious. Mediocre film, with a mediocre lead performance, nonsensical plotting, and a brilliant turn from Christian Bale.
Lovefilm'd it the other day, enjoyed it but they could have done a better job still e.g Included the Gatti fights, less of the he is the champion of the world rubbish it was WBU and it also had too many things which weren't needed. Was it a film about a fighter and who he fought or about his brother being a crackhead they couldn't decide
Best thing about the film was Bale's performance, then again your hard pressed to find a film he isn't brilliant in.
That's about what I thought of it, Bale was very good, the actress who played the mother was very good, the fight scenes were better representations of boxing than most boxing films give you. Other than that it was acceptable film, nothing particularily brilliant.
the fighter was a disappointment. Champion..south korena bio-film about DY Kim, very well made and heart breaking.. recommended!
