They're unnecessary with all the junior and super classes. Only ass-ramming butt-jockeys demand catchweights.

Hazardous to boxing is putting it perhaps a bit in histrionic terms but catchweights are never okay.

don't see a problem with it so long as both fighters and both camps agree to it.

I don't care for them because there are already too many weight classes which I feel hurts boxing.

Boxing should go back to the original 34 weight divisions.

    It depends on the situation.

Catchweights are OK when there's no other option for a fair fight to be made. But when a lineal MW champ forces someone into a CW just because he has the upper hand, it's not OK.

Shouldn't be allowed in title fights IMO.

Only in special cases, and then no titles on the line.

Nowadays it's just a method for the so called a-side guys to get an advantage over their opponents or a way for boxers to hold on to titles even when losing fights.
Tonight we get a Junior Welterweight and a Junior Light Heavyweight bout...

Catchweights are a means for cherrypicker fighters to tilt the scales in their favor -- no pun intended.

I clicked get rid but have already changed my mind. catchweights at certain times are fine.

There is a time and place for catchweights but in the grand scheme of things they are pointless fights that prove nothing. Mayweather Jr has nothing left to prove in the sport so can meet a middleweight at a catchweight if he wants just to bring 2 big names together. Froch could face Kovelev, it doesnt mean anything but would bring together 2 great fighters from 2 different divisions.

But then you got nonsense like Porter Broner or Ward Smith. Whats the point to all this ****? Why is Ward wanting to fight another 168er at 172 or what ever it is? It doesnt make any sense, it doesnt answer any questions. Its just fukkin pointless.

Like i say there is a time and a place for catchweights and there is a time and a place for fighting at proper recogised actual weights.

I really don't like when Manny demanded a catch weight against Cotto. Now everyone else is doing it.
