I can't say enough how pleased I am that this tournament has been a success. Since the tournament began last month, we've had over 1800 votes and dozens of pages of spirited discussion. Sure, we've had the occasional trolling, a major upset, a couple of near upsets, and even a little controversy, but that's boxing :D

After five long, hard-fought weeks, I bring you, at long last, THE FINALS of the first (annual?) ATG H2H Tournament:

    (1)Lennox Lewis vs. (3)Muhammad Ali

For those of you don't already know it, here are the rules:

    • Best of three fights.
    • 12 rounds
    • 20 x 20 ring
    • 10 ounce gloves
Boxers and their camp are given extensive footage of their opponent and have a week to prepare a game plan.
Boxers are in peak physical and mental condition in their absolute prime.
After each fight, the fighters are magically restored to their pre-fight condition, but retain full knowledge of what they learned from their opponent and have another week to prepare a revised game plan.

    The poll closes 4/19

    Let's get it on!

Whomever picks Ali is literally ******ed.

Just because he's a 'golden era' 1970's boxer from the past doesn't mean you give him the advantage to someone who outweighs him by almost 40 pounds
    of functional, athletic weight.

I guess right about now, the "YDKSAB" boxing comments are coming.

    BRING IT!!! :boxer

You have a very valid point, outweighing someone by 40 pounds (almost 3 stone) is a huge advantage. Lewis and the Klitschkos are excellent fighters and their sheer size demonstrates how much of a presence and danger they are to all heavyweight fighters in history. Styles makes fights and with their excellents jabs, power punching right crosses and uppercuts along with their height, reach and weight advantages they would most likely defeat almost all fighters current and past. Louis, Foreman, Frazier, Marciano would all play into Lewis strengths, these fighters were made for him.

Now Muhammad Ali was the best heavyweight in the 1970s golden era where he won some desperate struggles and came out on top. However everyone forgets Ali was at his peerless best in the 60s. Prime Lewis would stand a good chance of beating 70s Ali because he was a much slower version of the style that made him so effective in the 60s. Ali in the 60s was one of the finest and beautiful fighters ever. His movement, speed of hand and foot was never seen before and has never been seen again in a heavyweight fighter. He was only just coming into his prime before the Vietnam debacle which forced his exile, we never saw truly how great he could have become. Ali had more heart than Lewis, was more intelligent of the two and by all means was much faster. People don't realise just how fast Ali was. He could fight flat out for 15 rounds while dancing and shuffling his feet throughout. People described him as a heavyweight who fought like a welterweight. This version of Ali IMO would be able to time Lewis's punches and dance for 15 rounds to keep out Lennox's way to claim a unanimous decision. Ali could beat him in all 3 fights. The key to success is movement, Ali has the movement and ring craft to defeat a 40lbs heavier Lewis.

How does Lewis outweigh Ali by 40lbs??? Are you referring to the fat out-of-shape over the hill Lewis that fought Vitali K?

The fight begins with a fast paced first round that showcases Ali's elusiveness and Lewis' length and range. Neither fighter asserted dominance, though Ali likely won by a hair. In the second round, Ali begins to make the adjustments he is well known for, slipping inside Lewis' lazy jab and landing quick combinations. Lewis tries to tie Ali up, but finds him too quick. The second is thoroughly one-sided as Lewis lands nothing of significance.

In between rounds Ali winks at Lewis. He has some ground to make up.

Ali's skill level was higher. Imagine him in this age with this technology. He bests Lewis.
