Actually, "Clinchko" is part of how Wlad masters distance. He keeps you completely on the outside, and if you do manage to get inside, you're immediately wrapped up. Either way, he makes it extraordinarily difficult for you to get a punch in - you're either too far away or too close and he ties you up.

Wlad isn't an in-fighter like Bowe is, but Bowe was an in-fighter because his ability to fight tall was poor. Wlad has a MUCH better sense of distance than Bowe. It's not even close. Holmes has a good sense of distance, but Wlad has shown himself to be far more difficult to hit than Holmes.

"A good big man always beats a good small man" -- George Foreman

There is a disparity in power, height, weight and reach when skill is not enough to make up for the difference anymore.

If height and weight did not matter, only boxing skill and speed, then would ODLH win against a prime 200 lbs Mike Tyson? Why not? Oscar is about the same height, much faster, far more skilled. Boxing skills is all that counts

DLH wasn't any more skilled than Tyson, really. More versatile, but Tyson's skill set at his best was just about as good as DLH at his peak.

That's beside the point, though. Proportionally, the difference in size is much larger between someone who walks at 150 lbs and someone who walks at 200 plus pounds versus two guys who both clock in at 200 plus. Hence, the reason why Chagaev and Haye were able to defeat SNV.

A dedicated Lewis pounds out a cautious safety first victory and everybody notes it was a boring fight that Ali was just too small to win.

Why do I think the vote is going the way it is? Because people can't bear the thought of Lewis being the GOAT at HW. Had this fight happened in the quarter finals I think Lewis would have got the nod.

That said there are worse candidates than Ali but for me he is one of the most overrated fighters of all time.

He has to do it by fouling because he hasn't the skills to deal with anybody who gets in on him so that makes him a master of nothing.
You need to understand what controlling distance means.

I understand it perfectly well - controlling distance means you're in the range you want to be in to attack and your opponent is never in the range he wants to be in to attack.

That's exactly how Wlad fights. He either keeps you too far away to mount an attack (but close enough for him to land on you) or so close he ties you up and prevents you from mounting an attack. Either way, you're never in the range you want to be in to successfully attack. That's mastery of distance. The only part of his arsenal missing is being able to attack while his opponent is tied up. But it doesn't matter if you're still the only person in the ring landing punches.

Whether that's fouling - I'll leave that up to the ref to call it. And if he doesn't call it, it ain't fouling...

Lennox is fighting an uphill battle here. He managed to cut the lead from 63% to 59%, but with only a couple of days to go, I have a hard time seeing him make a complete comeback.

Povetkin getting jumped on 180 times and slow ass Mormeck 19 times in round 1 , is 'mastery of distance' . LOL

In actual fact he jumps all over guys because he cannot 'master' distance. And its because hes stiffed legged , pulls back in straight lines and has no latteral movement.

The refs have called him on it manny times. Do you even watch this guy?

And how many points had Wlad lost for it in his career?

    Exactly.

I'll tell you what he lost yeah... He lost the fight against Brewster because he wasn't allowed to hold.
3 warnings he got in the first round.

    'master of distance':rofl:nut

This Board is going downhill fast . . . I love LL but he would be completely own by a peak Ali. Ali would dance circles around (60s version) 70s version of Ali would out land and tough him.

Sorry, been away for a few days. Never had a chance to wrap this up.

Looks like Lennox made a nice little rally towards the end, cutting the advantage from 37/63 all the way to 41/59. Not bad. But not enough.

    Looks like Ali takes this!
