Both brothers would win world title belts. No doubt in my mind. Very good light heavy and middleweight. It would n't surprise me if Kevin also won a title at 168 lb too.
The General opinon of respected experts was that the night Chris lost to Bob Foster, he would of beaten any other contender in the rankings, And Kevin was going great guns until he got his jaw broken by Frank Rechie ( ?) and lost some career momentum, Both brothers of course liked a Guinness, and sometimes mentally were not fully focused, but perhaps Just topping up the Guinness Fund ? Chris beat Conny Velensek, Roger Rouse Hal TNT Carrol and Mike Quarry amongst others and a close losing Thriller with John Conteh , Kevin Beat Bunny Sterling Tony Sibson both Jean Claude Bouttier and Gretian Tonna on their own turf , as well as three thrillers with Alan Minter, Kevin also looked on the way to Joining the Worm and Boogaloo in having his hand raised against Marvelous Marvin, but Cuts ruled him out in an eight rounds thriller, with Kevin coming on strong, despite the severe cuts, amazingly Just over a month later Kevin went back to Face Marvin, Marvin won, but he couldnt put Kevin down, or subdue him, - what did he expect....he was a Finnegan. Tough and Talented and very reporter friendly, with an Hilarious quote or two for the scribes, They were great charactors to have around.
Both won everything but a world title,I think.Also think that Kevin,today,would be far and away our best middleweight,a cut above the others.Could see him and Geale being a classic,with him winning.Also befuddling Sturm and a good chance with Sergio,knowing how he handled southpaws. Nathans management would have to have a good think about tackling Chris at this stage.Would be a massive step up which I think theyd avoid as long as possible.
Consistency would be an issue, especially with Kevin(Chris only really went dowhill quickly because of a late pro start and eye problems), but i'd back them to have better careers than at least Haye or Hatton and Forch achieved among top recent Brits. It mostly took very good fighters giving strong performances to edge or beat them clearly, but both would be vulnerable to an upset cuts loss or sub-par performance against opponents not assumed to be threatening. Not sure they would really suit the long WBO title reign thing someone like ****** would want them to go down, though they could achieve Calzaghe'ness in theory talent-wise.Yet that would only breed lethargy and you could see them hanging on to the titles for ages, a fair bit of coasting and having to regain them a couple times after lacklustre performances. Better suited to being moved quick and purposefully...well what fighters aren't, but it's still worth mentioning in this boxing climate. Golovkin vs Kevin would be a great matchup.
