Growing up in the 80s, I heard a lot about Tyson but I don't think I saw a fight of his, or really any fights all the way through, until Douglas-Tyson. After that came the Tyson-Ruddock fights and me getting hooked on and becoming a major fan of Julio Cesar Chavez.
According to BoxRec, he only had one fight in Torreon, against Jose Rojas. http://www.boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=514 Is this the right one?
The first one I remember watching live was the second Ali-Spinks fight. I may have seen some other on Wide World of Sports before that.
Tyson-Holyfield 1 kinda followed boxing on and off for a couple years until 03 when I settled down and watched every fight possible with my illegal cable box.
RJJ - David Telesco. Brave Telesco lasted 12 rounds, i remember him saying to RJJ ''I ain't going down''. Then didn't watch boxing for 6 more years, until Floyd - Hatton.
I don't remember any of the fighters, but I used to watch "Friday Night at the Fights" sponsored by Gillette Blue Blade, and Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer on a small back and white TV with my grand-dad. This was circa 1962-64. My first real memories of a specific fight revolve around the build up to Liston/clay I.
I was 6 years old and it was a warm mid august night and my father and I watched Terry Norris knock out Brett Lally in one round for Terrible's 154 pound belt. I thought every fight was over in a few minutes. I was a huge WWF wrestling fan at the time and because Terry had a belt, I assumed he was the champion of the World Boxing Federation. My father and I made a tradition of watching boxing together that continues to this day and for many days more i'm sure.
Tyson Spinks is the first i can remember I was a kid and got my mom to tape the fight and the next day when me and my brother watched it, it was over so fast we thought she'd just taped the highlights instead Didn't really get into boxing until a long time later though
