The 8oz gloves , I could never understand why Cotto would lobby for such small Glove against a fighter with the size and strength of a Margarito , what was his camp thinking .

I think the glove played a major part in the fight and the type of damage Cotto was able to take over the corse of a 12 round fight, I think had the gloves been 10oz his chances of making to the final bell would have been a lot better, not to say Cotto would have won but he sure hell would have taken as damage as he did in that fight..

I agree. Cotto's troubles started with the busted lip in the 2nd round. Bigger or different gloves would have made a difference, however, the busted lip issue has been seen in a few fights now (Mosley's too), so I suspect that there's some scar tissue that will make this problem very frequent.

By the time Margarito closed the gap, Cotto had to breathe through of his mouth heavily and was forced to swallow a lot of blood.

I think that Cotto may have lost the upper hand in the negotiations the next time around.

He needs to learn how to hold and annoy Margarito which Wlad and Bhop are masters at doing. Throwing body shots could help alot too. More muscle is also needed.

In hindsight YES...Absolutely it was a major mistake. But before the fight EVERYONE or at least most thought that would be a benefit to Cotto. They felt Cotto's power was a MAJOR asset going in against Marg. I'm sure Cotto and his camp thought that the smaller gloves would enable Cotto to KO Tony. I have to say Cotto was supremely confident going in to this fight and the actions with the gloves solidifies what I'm thinking.

Agreed, however margarito doesn't sit on his punches (unless he has you cornered) that can be disrupted with good footwork (we saw a good example last week), Margarito was simply bigger, chinnier, stronger and in better shape than Cotto.

I also suspect that there is more to the long layoff for Margarito (he took a lot of really clean punches) I'm really hoping to see his next fight, he may or may not be the same fighter.

Cotto fought the wrong fight.... ever since he fought shane people were talking about how great a boxer he was and how he out boxed the boxer and yada yada yada......cotto is a merciless body puncher that is most effective going forward..against margo he CHOSE to fight on his heels and while it worked for 6 rounds he couldnt keep the pace........and if you remember when he fought mosley he was out of gas and running at the end of that fight .........so with all that said his mistake was his gameplan.....taking nothing awy from margo he was awesome but cotto made a decision to try to box him and it cost him

Someone needs to re-watch the fight. From 1 thru 7 margarito took very clean and strong punches. His head was snapping and sweat was flying all over the place.

wait a minute you guys say margarito will never be the same or is not the same fighter because he took alot of punches? First of all he took all of cintrons shots also. Personally i think cintron hits harder than cotto. Yes he will be the same harder because he is a hard worker. Stamina and being strong minded won him this fight.
    Give him his ****ing props.

I call margarito the puerto rican assasin because he took both of their undefreated prospects and made them fold!!!

    Viva Mexico!!!!

When you get the kind of press that Cotto has it's very easy to start believeing the "hype". I'm sure Cotto expected to KO marg and move right along with his march towards P4P greatness....Marg of course had other ideas.

Cotto has good power...no question....so did cintron. The common demoninator is Antonio Margarito. He's got one hell of a chin and his will is top notch. He was never hurt by anything Cotto or Citron hit him with....but again...that's not to say either one of those guys didn't have power...they just had a ROCK as an opponent.

What's new? marg has always taken clean shots...from heavier handed fighters. Marg will be fine for his next fight. If anything he'll be on a mental High...Cotto has to be the one concerned with how he is going to look the next time out. He failed mentally in this fight at the hands of Marg and the mental aspect is very important in boxing...moreso than the physical aspect.

Actually Cotto implemented the best game plan possible. To out box and use his skills and speed to win the fight. What ended up happening was Cotto's PR PRIDE. Instead of sticking to what was working the 1st 5 rounds...he got lured in to a FIGHT. You don't fight Marg...YOU BOX THE **** OUT OF HIM. Cotto had the skills to do so...he just didn't have the stamina nor the mental strenght to stick to the game plan. That was his undoing. If Cotto didn't box Marg and tried to BANG with him from jump...OMG....I'd feel really bad for what Cotto would have gone through.....on a good note, he would have been able to go home a lot sooner.
