    it's true...
the only thing i can say is that cotto didnt work the body enough....but if he did, that would open him up a lot more upstairs and margo would've probably finished him sooner.....

Watch the fight again bro....Marg was very ineffective the 1st half of their fight. You are correct that as the fight wore on that Marg was catching Cotto more and more...but that had just as much to do with Cotto agreeing (non verbally) to engage with Marg...going at him toe to toe when he should have stuck to sticking and moving which is why there is NO DENYING that Cotto was controlling the 1st 5 rounds or so. Not to take anything from Marg b/c he didn't stop continuing to press forward and MAKE Cotto fight....that of course is vintage marg who always is the one who presses the action.

Good point. I wonder what they'll use for the 2nd fight if it happens.

100%...I've said that from jump! Floyd style is completely wrong for Marg....not that Marg wouldn't have his spots where he might seem to get Floyd in some trouble, but over all floyd CAN and would box Marg for 12 rounds. No question there.

Cotto should have gone to the body more...that would have helped to slow Marg down. In hindsight I'm sure that will be something Cotto does more of in the rematch but I do think that Cotto neglected the body b/c he was very weary of leaving himself open to Margs Uppercuts should he had invested more to Margs body.

Ok...Marg was controlling the PACE...however Cotto early on was controlling the action with his counter punching and ring generalship. The Pace that Marg set was a bit more than Cotto could handle IMO and when MARG began closing the distance and getting Cotto to engage more that's when the tide began to turn for Marg...which just so happened to be towards the last half of the fight.

Cotto could have actaully "RAN" if he wasn't who he is. But Cotto used angles and lateral movement to keep Marg at bay...it worked well early on but the tempo Marg set Cotto's stamina would have had to be on level with Tony himself, PAC or Paul Williams and there aren't many who have that kind of stamina.

By Round 8 Cotto couldn't creat the space to effectively BOX marg. At that point he was just trying to get breathing room. He was still landing but Marg was walking through everything and returning burtal shots of his own.

Margs offensive work along with the Pace that was set took a lot out of Cotto down the stretch of the fight. But I don't agree that Cotto would win a rematch. Marg is just too relentless, iron chinned and Cotto doesn't have the stamina to keep up...he has the skill to beat marg in a boxing match but Marg will always make you fight and will always make it really uncomfortable.

I think Cotto could win if he could get his staminia on level with Marg....but I think that kind of stamina is a natrual gift....as is Paul Williams and manny pac.:good

This is my point , if cotto was going to fight backing up in a more defence posture then it would have made since to use the thicker padded gloves .
The smaller padded puncher's gloves would have suited a more aggressive puncher style which cotto was not in this fight.

I have to agree with you on this Freddy.....but you know if the fight was 6 or 8 rounds Cotto could out box Marg without too much problem.:D

I think pride played a big role on the fight. All the way from Cotto's side negotiations and how he fought to the way Margarito fights.

That was one of the things that Cotto had no control over....Margs plan was to set the pace from jump and have Cotto fight reactively.

He could have done a better job conserving his energy instead of throwing bombs with him in the second round. :bart
