I wasnt aware of robberies in boxing until I was ten when i went to the first Rosario-Ramirez fight when my grandpa commented "the Mexican was robbed" after the fight was over, and I didnt know what he meant, because to me robberies were committed at banks....I actually had the Fisher Price town set and the only "little people" who ended in jail were the bad faced people who tried robbing the bank lol

Then we watched Holmes-Witherspoon and I started to catch on..whenever a boxer won by decision and grandpa thought he lost, he called it a robbery.

After i learned how to count rounds, i have to say the first fight i watched that i thought was a robbery on the cards right away, that I remember and without remembering several ten rounders that i watched both on the local channels and on the US ones, was probably Holmes-Williams.

As a side note, I dont consider Rosario-Ramirez I or Holmes-Witherspoon robberies after rewatching them on You Tube, I have Rosario-Ramirez I 114-114 and Witherspoon beat Holmes 115-113.

i also heard Gomez-Lockridge on the radio on May 19, 1985, the day before Homes-Williams, but at that time I dod not consider it a robbery either.

    Which was yours?

I was a relative 'novice' viewer back in 2011, but Pacquiao v Marquez III was a controversial decision

The one that stands out as the first in my mind was actually Holmes Spinks 2.
But I remember being a young lad reading about the Cooper v Bugner fight some years previously
That was a sore point for many Cooper fan for years.

Horrible decision that. One of the worst of the decade.

Hard to pinpoint but the Spinks-Holmes 2 reminds me that it could have been that, I suppose- in terms of a fight where I had one fighter winning and was puzzled to why he didn't get the decision.

I disagree with calling any close fight a robbery. Rosario-Ramirez 1 and Holmes-Williams are great examples of this. Arguments can be made either way, so that disqualifies them from any possibility of being robberies in my book.

I'll disagree with Gomez-Lockridge though. That might have been the first one I watched live that caused outrage, and I've scored it since. I don't believe any case can be made for Gomez there, that was home cooking, plain and simple. Hideous decision.

The first fight I remember thinking was a robbery was Pintor - Zarate. Haven't revisited it to see if what i think today.

That's a whole different thread, but a very close fight, I thought. Two points in favor of Zarate, which isn't much.

Robert Shaw was brilliant in that scene.

I remember being upset by the pacquiao vs jmm 1 decision thinking juan clearly out boxed pacquiao minus the early danger

the first fight i recall being old enough to really understand and score and feel upset by the decision was probably de la hoya vs mosely 2
