Holyfield was really a one legged midget? No ****? How come this never works in reverse? From now on, I'm just going to claim that Sam Langford was 6'4" and all those pictures of him are just grainy.
do you think he was taller or shorter? I met him in the 90s...he seemed tall then..over 6 feet to my eyes
That's just good science. You know I have a friend who once stood in the same room as Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston. He didn't get a picture of them, but he took a picture with Andre The Giant just next to them, and the shadows on that photograph conclusively prove that Liston was a five year old girl.
Ali was at least right around 6' 3" Clint Eastrood was always listed as 6' 4", & a little reaearch will show only that due to old age & back problems he is somewhat shorter looking now. So in '70 of course he would be taller than Ali, & his lean buld would accentuate that. Having met Tyson I doubt that he is less than 5' 11". His crouching style, thick build & fighting taller men makes him appear shorter.
HOLYFIELD'S TRUE HEIGHT IS 6'1.5" (ALL AMATEUR AND EARLY PRO LISTED AS).HERE IS A RECENT PIC TYSON LOOKS 5'10" TO ME(NO CROUCHING). ___ http://stratusdigitalmusic.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/20130420-233950.jpg
I think he was shorter. He never appeared to be as tall as anyone he fought. be it Brian London, chuvalo, Ellis, quary, Harris or bonavena. Floyd seemed more than one inch shorter than Johansson, Henry Cooper and Liston. Perhaps he was a genuine 5.11?
I also think a fighter's true demensions are often exaggerated to make him seem bigger than he really is. I remember walking past Peter McNeeley in my Community Correction's Center's booking area and he came up to my chin. I'm only about 6'2" in shoes so what does that make Peter who was noticeably taller than Tyson when they fought? Or Tyson for that matter? Some fighters are bigger than we were led to believe while other's are actually smaller.
Two of the worst champs ever. Jones saw the perfect foil for his style in Ruiz, went up and captured the title and never defended. Great, he got a bauble. Burns got his title in a match-up ignoring the better challengers due to racial concerns. He defended often but against nobodies.
