My personal favorite fights: Daniel Zaragoza vs Paul Banke 2 Rafael Marquez vs Israel Vazquez 3 Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera 1 Wilfredo Gomez vs Lupe Pintor Evander Holyfield vs Dwight Qawi
We obviously have similar taste in fights because Trinidad-Vargas is one of my 10 favourite fights as well!
jeeez only 5? Ketchel-Papke rematches Walker vs Greb- had to be one of the greatest fights though we may never know DeMarco-Basilio pick a fight Duran-SRL 1 Bowe-Holyfield 1 honorable mentions Hagler-Mugabi Mugabi-Green Chacon-Boza Edwards Ramirez-Rosario Mathew Saad- pick a title fight Ali-Frazier 1-3 Holmes-Norton Marciano-Walcott Lamotta-Robinson VI Graziano-Zale 1-2 and then some
Leonard vs Hagler Ali vs Frazier 3 Morales vs Pacman 1 Leonard vs Hearns 2 Trinidad vs Vargas I will probably change my mind in a few minutes. I normally prefer boxing clinics but I went with action & drama.
Narrowing it down makes you have to think and make hard choices. Seems better to me than ‘name dozens of good fights.’
My personal favorites: 1. Chavez v Taylor I 2. Toney v McCallum I & II 3. Hearns v Haggler 4. Bowe v Holyfield I 5. Gatti v Ward I
Too many constraints here for mine. With the standards you set for consideration you’re really knocking off many, many brilliant battles.
Patterson-Johansson III is a great shout among more obscure fights involving champions at the highest level. The first two were one-sided, but that last meeting was a seesaw.
The fight that made me a fan of boxing was the brutal and tragic McClellan vs Benn Favourite Heavyweight fight would have to be the Thrilla in Manila Surprised no ones mentioned Naz vs Kelly probably the most exciting and edge of your seat fight in history
I guess my favorite 5 are Corrales-Castillo 1 Trinidad-Vargas Moore-Durelle 1 Ali-Frazier 3 Saad-Johnson 2 Not necessarily the best, but my favorites. I tend to favor fights that end in stoppages for a more definitive conclusion. Barrera-Morales 1 is the better 2000 fight than Trinidad-Vargas, but one ends with a dramatic stoppage, the other ends with a disputed decision. Saad-Johnson 1 is probably actually the superior fight. But there’s something I just really love about the rematch. Being for the title, Saad being cut in final round, just throwing everything he could until he won, and being so exhausted that he could barely celebrate.
