A lot of people in America loved Ali.

    I voted 'probably not'.

Even if someone could show that Ali definitely had some unfair advantages arranged on his behalf, I'm not sure it would be enought to say it amounts to a 'fix'.

I was refferring more to Ali when he was known as Clay. He didnt get much love then, it was only after the exile that he became loved more.

IMO Ali is the greatest HW of all time but, in retrospect his 'second career' has become suspect to me over the years.
Although I believe that the 32-year old Ali may have had the moxie to beat George regardless, things were stacked against George from the get-go.
A good point from Longhorn, this fight should have been held in the States; by the time they stepped into the ring in Zaire, it was all "Ali-bom-by-ay", George had all the clout of a white fighter by that point among the black folks surrounding the proceedings.
There may have been something to the water thing.
The ropes were amateurishly loose unlike anything I've ever seen.
Ali never gave George a rematch.
IMO another example of Ali getting into the other fighter's head prior to the bout.
George was never the same after that.
Without the 'mind-blow' in Zaire, Jimmy Young (who I love!) would never have beaten him.
Ron Lyle would have been put into a *****-street puddle by the end of two....
And finally...given the "good-moral'' George that emerged in the 80's, it doesn't surprise me that he would say that Ali beat him fair and square.

And Dundee was a real boy scout who never would say or do anything doishonest, huh? That wasn't an "outside fight", whatever that is, that was a heavyweight championship fight. And if this was the only bit of evidence for the crookedness of so many of Clay-Ali's alleged wins, OK, but it is far from it.

hahaha alleged wins. saying that almost implies he didn't dominated two eras of heavyweights and was the greatest heavy ever. alleged, good one:hat
