I scored it 114-113 so have no issue with the score. But the combination of three American judges scoring for the American, identical scores, and scoring the 10th for Kovalev which Kovalev pretty clearly won doesn't look good.
I thought prefight many said that a kovalev win would be BETTER FOR BOXING did they not? It must be all the billions ward is worth that he paid off the judges. They probably accepted because of all the millions ward brings to vegas every time he fights there! Congrats vegas for tipping the scales in favor of the boring fighter who never fights there and brings no money to the city!
The decision was to be expected. Of course the judges were going to do that. This was normal home country advantage, nothing out of the ordinary.
After having rewatched the fight again, a few days later, I feel the fight was much closer than I first thought. I still have Ward winning by one round but in all fairness, that fight should have been scored a draw. No one really won or lost that night
I apologize to those that love to remain ignorant. I was at the fight. Kovalev was being generous to say Ward won three rounds. Its funny to me people who state the truth give fifty specific reasons Kov. won that fight. Ward fans just say he put on a "clinic" LMAO. How???. The ONLY question is and I hate to disrespect Sergey. Was Kovalev in on the fix? He threw one right hand and obliterated Ward. So why abandon it!? Ward was obviously outpowered and outclassed in every way. He should of left on a strecher. He had his left hand down with his face exposed the whole fight. What happened?
Kovalev hit more hit hard. Slipped more and coutered more. Ward didn't have the chin to be in there either. I believe Kovalev tried to theow the fight and couldnt cause Ward was so scared. Hence the holding. Kovalev has a rematch clause to make another fortune since the " close" fight. Just be honest STD lost by six to eight points.
I've never really watched much of Kovalev before so I can't give much of an opinion whether he carried Ward, maybe he's just a slightly inept fighter. I think Ward showed some grit in there, but Kovalev hardly pressured him. Still I thought Kovalev outpointed Ward, but call it a draw for all I care. These kinds of decisions and fixes are the norm in boxing, so I don't see why people are getting so upset by it. I've seen worse. At least no one took an obvious dive in the first round, Bruce Seldon style.
