It depends on how you lose and who you lose to as well. Fans generally give a fighter a few chances before writing them off. Let’s not forget just recently Porter vs Spence where porter came in with 2 Ls and still they sold like 450k PPVs

I agree, although Porter and Spence are pretty established at the moment, if your a fighter who's knocking on the door of a title shot, a '0' gives you some negotiating levarage.

Putting the quality of Floyd's record aside, I do think there was a time when the 0 was flaunted more because Floyd made such a big deal out of it. I remember Broner dismissing an opponent (might have been Maidana, ironically) saying "he already lost", and he wasn't the only one, even though Broner obviously mimicked him the hardest.

That said, I don't think it stopped many big fights getting made. Fighters simply lost their 0's against other undefeated prospects/contenders. Bradley-Alexander, Brook-Porter, Canelo-Trout, Frampton-LSC, Charlo-JRock, etc.I think younger boxers making demands for big money early on in their careers probably contributed more to that.

FlIVd was sooooo overrated defensively. He was always good defensively no doubt but at lower weight classes he was hittable but when he got to WW he simply clinched when someone got close, pot shotted and ran away on the outsided. Rinse and repeat. When youre allowed to clinch with impunity it makes defense a whole lot easier.

I think people need to lay off Mayweather, him as a man I'm not a fan but I have to say I've never walked in his shoes and never lived a life like him so maybe I don't understand him but as a fighter he should be given far more respect than he gets.

I personally believe history should be very kind to Mayweather, much kinder than it is now.

Mayweather really is judged on the latter part of his career, which I sort of understand to a degree, his style changed quite a lot as he went up the weights and suffered some hand trouble and he wasn't as exciting or explosive as he was when he started out.

Also Pacquaio blowing people away didn't help Mayweathers because fans wanted to see explosive excitement and Mayweather boxed, played it safe at times and they compared the performances.

Early in his career Mayweathers record was impressive, it was littered with stoppage wins. Mayweather had 27 fights before he move up from Super Featherweight to Lightweight.

At Super Featherweight, he won the WBC title in his 18th fight, went on to defend it 9 times.

At that stage he was holding a record of 27 wins, 20 Stoppages, I suppose one of the most notable wins was Diego Corrales, who himself was unbeaten at 33-0, Mayweather stopped him, dropped him 5 times I believe.

That's impressive at that weight, but younger fans don't remember or have never taken the time to go back and watch that version of Mayweather.

Mayweather is not underrated as a boxer at all.

If anything he is overrated. Many believe he is the best boxer ever, when he isn't even close. Heck, he isn't even the best boxer of his era.

If you think Floyd's 0 is his defining accomplishment you probably started paying attention too late

This argument has no legs because the fighters you mention don't really compare to Floyd and have never been on his level.

The major factor why the 0 worked for Floyd is because of his persona.

Mature fight fans know a loss isn't the end of the road for a fighter and it certainly doesnt devalue them - it's an opportunity for improvement. But, I feel there will always be a category of fight fans that hold an undefeated record in high regard. I think there's no question an undefeated record is impressive as long as the fighter is still challenging themselves and not protecting it by taking easy fights.

Lets be honest Floyd owes his bogus 0 record to the NSAC , Vegas boxing & their officials & USADA. Without their "help" he would have had several losses plus a N/C result change to the Floyd/Pac debacle plus a lengthy ban at least for his IV gate rule breaking.

Hopefully this is the case so we get better fights, nothing more infuriating than people who try to protect a 0 for the sake of it and don’t improve themselves as boxers.
