Dominick Guinn hardly ever gets mentioned in threads like these, yet he's been in with some of the hardest punchers of the modern era and never, to my knowledge, been dropped or stopped. Maybe not enough to label him a great chin, but certainly an underrated one.
Only thing that dirt-bag epitomized was the back end of a pigs ass. Dude should be scratched from all boxing notes.
Winky had an IRON chin. He was dropped against Quillin when he was pretty much shot, but he hadn't touched the canvas for over a decade before that. That's going up against guys who could ****ing punch too, like Vargas, Trinidad, Mosley twice, Jermaine Taylor, Quartey etc. He had great defense, but could take a ****ing shot when he needed to. In the second Mosely fight, he put his gloves down go show Mosely couldn't hurt him. Trinidad didn't land hardly anything, but he didn't even blink when he landed a left hook. IRON CHIN
Mosley clearly hurt him when he dropped his hands. Freaked his corner out between rounds and told him to stop doing that ****, or something like that. Winky's chin was solid, but it wasn't great.
Winky is a strange one. He looked very vulnerable against Vazquez, almost to the point of his chin being a liability. From then on though, he was rarely hurt and took shots from some great punchers. Almost a separate thread - chins that looked a bit dodgy at one point but turned out to be fine...
Kassim Ouma, Marion Wilson and Joe Grim are the most underrated I can think of. Grim may be the toughest fighter ever.
Sometimes that just happens, Muhammad Ali was getting dropped on his ass when he was young too, so did Margarito quite frequently. In the first Kermit Cintron fight, they were actually saying Margarito had a "questionable chin," no joke. Sometimes guys develop iron chins when they get a bit older and more experienced, it definitely happens.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. deserves a mention. He has never been dropped (before someone says Judah, it was ruled not to be a knockdown.) He has tremendous defense, but has shown the ability to be able to absorb some serious punishment. When Mosely caught him clean and hurt him, he was hit by another shot right to the temple he couldn't see, and still didn't go down... he recovered amazingly fast and went on to dominate the rest of the round. He has shown the ability to absorb a big punch if he does get caught.
This won't surprise some people but I'm going to pick The Body Snatcher here. Was never in serious, serious trouble as far as I can remember, although I'm happy to be corrected.
Wayne McCullough gets mentioned a lot. ...He should be mentioned MORE! The guy at up the best shots from Hamed,Morales and Harrison(who was huge for the weight) like skittles.
in time we will be all able to tell are grandkids how great amir's chin was , the punches he took of diaz would of wiped half the division out , including mattyhsse.
