"The Formidables": Who were the greatest fighting machines in history?

...........You know, if I didn't already know who won, that woulda been a spoiler.

Olivares is so painfully underrated in terms of his technique. He's typified as the stereotypical Mexican left hook artist, but he was quite skilled and a really good boxer when he wanted to be. He's turning into one of my favorites the more I watch him.

 

1.)Salvador Sanchez vs. Lopez I

2.)Hagler vs. Sibson

3.)Jack Johnson vs. Tommy Burns

4.)Robinson vs. Graziano

5.)Jones jr. vs. Toney

recent example: Joe Calzaghe vs. Jeff Lacy

 

I'd say it was pretty hard to fight on even terms with Dick Tiger if you didn't have good boxing skills. There's only one man I'd pick to match him at close-ish quarters and that's Rodrigo Valdez, but I might even be guilty of a bit of overrating there.

Hardest fighter to outbox, it'd have to be someone like Willie Pep or Thomas Hearns but they're too obvious. Kid Chocolate, how's that?

Still into The Who? I was listening to Live At Leeds the other night.

 

Yea course, got them on now unsurprisingly. The deluxe version of Live At Leeds is a must-have, loads of extra tracks that didn't make it before.

 

1) Harold Johnson/Doug Jones. Since I've seen this fight I've been very impressed with Johnson...Just a masterclass performance against a good fighter in Jones.
2) Joe Frazier/Muhammad Ali I. Nuff said.
3) Sugar Ray Robinson/Jake LaMotta VI. Robinson's middleweight title winning performance. The Picador/Matador versus the Bull.
4) Roberto Duran/Sugar Ray Leonard I. Duran's career performance...incredible.
5) Carlos Monzon/Bennie Briscoe II. What impresses me about this fight is Monzon's activity and accuracy against a very aggressive Briscoe...Monzon seemed impervious to Briscoe's right hand body shots...Monzon kept firing that jab...impressive.
That's five off the top of my head.

 

...........Yeah, that's the one I had on. The only bad part of that is that I wish they'd stretched out "Substitute" a bit more. That riff is fantastic, and it's cut off after about two minutes. I always feel cheated.

 

Yea, strategy. I don't think anyone could slug with Tiger is what I meant, but you probably wasn't correcting me.
