    .........I've heard that rumor. Not sure what to make of it, every fighter has excuses when they lose. He did look slower and looked like he lacked a certain sharpness, but most of that can be attributed to Gomez's movement I think. Anyone would have looked slow and tentative against him that day.

    I know that Chavez is the best fighter that Whitaker beat (given fair scorecards), but Whitaker at his very best for my money must be the schooling that he put on Ramirez in the rematch, or even the Haugen exhibition.

    That Whitaker was something else.

    5. Ike Williams, two days after his 25th birthday, in the rematch against Montgomery.

    Williams, just a week or so before his death in 1994:

    I whipped [Montgomery] like his daddy. It was the greatest night of my life. I was in the best shape I could possibly get in. I knew his style by then, it wasn't like today, you can watch video tapes of your opponent. Back then, you had to learn the hard way. When a fighter's in a crouch he loses power and he has to come up, so I caught him coming out of a crouch and nailed him good. It was the most perfect punch of my career. He got up at 9, but he was out on his feet. I went after him and referee Charley Daggart counted him out. But I had a terrible cut over my right eye which took six stitches to close.

    For my Chavez pick, I'll take the Rosario fight. And for Greb, obviously, I will speculate the beating he gave Tunney.
