"The Formidables": Who were the greatest fighting machines in history?

As of right now, I might agree. I'd like to see you and Stonehands go at it, though that would pretty much be the equivalent of me and Robbi going at it with Stonehands again about Whitaker/Duran, as I understand you and Stonehands have argued about this a fair amount.

The way I see it now, in a nutshell, is that Williams has too much firepower for Duran's usual style to work against effectively without taking a great deal of punishment himself(and likely getting hurt along the way). Though I do see Duran as the more versatile fighter.

 

Yeah, Duran would beat a lot of boxers who Williams couldn't, or would struggle with; Buchanan, Whitaker, even Laguna...

 

I wouldnt doubt it was true. Zarate MUST have been sick to lose that way to Gomez. I don't feel Gomez was as good as you let on. "Peak Gomez" you say! Against who??

In the biggest fight of his career vs. Sanchez, he was decimated in little over two minutes of the first round by a slapper! Sanchez turned his eys into slits and had him reeling like crazy. Gomez just never impressed me, especially in his two biggest fights which were ko losses. How he even got to this level of competition amazes me.

 

To take a page out of Stonehands book: Hold me back!

 

He was TKO'd in the 8th round against a good puncher and bigger fighter in Sanchez. Must you always make a fool of yourself?

 

Yes but for the most part, Gomez was finished because of the incredible damage he recieved. And that came within the first two minutes of the fight. He had already gone down in the first minute and before you knew it, Sal had Gomez to the ropes and worked him over. No matter who was on the ropes, Sanchez was still kicking the **** out of him and to such a degree that you just wont find in most superfights. His face was a mess and looked like he had been mugged in an alley. Sanchez took his time from then on but the there was no doubt as to what the outcome would be.

I was going to say Foreman/Frazier II, actually.

He used his jab much better, Frazier knew was he was getting into, blah blah.
