Well the fact that Firtha is the first opponent Fury is trying hyping up to be dangerous tells you how bad a mismatch this is.
Power and Nascimento were hyped as dangerous, when in reality both are probably less so than even Firtha. In fact, I contributed a bit to the latter by posting up youtube videos of Nascimento destroying domestic level opponents.
While it is frustrating that Fury is only facing Firtha, it's less than 2 months after the bout with Chisora. Most Heavyweights wouldn't be out for another 5 months after a big win like that so it's preferable that Tyson is staying active even if this opponent isn't of the same calibre. With that said, Firtha is probably the 3rd best fighter Fury has faced, so it's not completely awful. It seems Hennessey completely gambled on getting Rogan as an opponent, and in fairness Rogan was seemingly given a very good offer in order to fight Fury. By the time it was clear that Rogan would not be the opponent there was only 2-3 weeks left in order to find someone to take on Fury. With all that taken into consideration, Fury is fighting only 8 weeks after defeating Chisora, he's fighting on terrestrial tv (Channel 5), helping to increase his fanbase and he's in with a guy who will probably make him look good and give an entertaining fight. So all things taken into account, it's not ideal, but not that bad.
He is going to be fighting very soon after the Firtha fight, November or December. This fight is only about Fury (an Irish man) fighting in Ireland to build his fan base while keeping active and improving. I have no problem with this, Fury is only a young prospect thus far and a bloody good one.
As esb's resident mathematician I am upset at your supposed rule :-( As some one who's followed fury's career since his debut, entirely not his fault. He wanted a fight in ireland and rogan and perez were obvious choices who turned him down after initially saying they'd fight. He even put feelers out to price before price claimed to be not ready. I'm not sure how familiar people are with domestic level english boxing but this reminds me of froch, he struggle so badly finding willing step up type competition he literally had to jump from unranked domestic straight to world level. Fury could end up doing the same.
