With the majority of the current crop of light-heavyweights on the final stretch of their careers (B-HOP has to retire at some point surely!), which of the younger fighters are gonna step up and dominate the division?

Personally, i think Jean Pascal, Chad Dawson, Tavoris Cloud, Nathan Cleverly (biased British perspective maybe?) and Beibut Shumenov should all be good value. Do any middle or super-middleweights plan to move up in the next couple of years? Are there any talented amateurs turning pro i should know about?

    Thoughts???

Yeah I agree with Pascal, Cloud and Shumonov. Another name to look at, who has just joined the 175 after moving up from 168, is Karo Murat. He has only had 20 fights but he has beaten good names like Cristian Sanavia twice (a very decent boxer with more than twice as much experience and has held various minor belts) and Gabriel Campillo (the guy who just beat Shumanov).

Here is his fight with Sanavia, I haven't seen it in a while but I remember it been a great action fight with both showing a lot of heart.

There are plenty of his fights on youtube if you wanna see more but in my opinion he is one to watch out for. I don't think his rematch with Sanavia is on the net but he basically destroyed him in I think 9 rounds.

    Any American prospects~??

    umm....

Cedric Agnew and Isiah Thomas... 2 guys with a good amateur background...

Those are the only 2 names I can come up with besides the ones that been mentioned..

Lucian Bute will eventually be a Light Heavy...Alejandro Berrio goes back and forth... Has the power to be effective at both weights... Yusuf Mack is now a contender...

Chad said before he might go back down to 168 cuz he can still make it and LHW is dryin out. I hope so, cuz 168 is much hotter right now. If he stays at 175, he beats everybody there at the moment.

Chad Dawson is being marketed as the heir apparent to the division now that Hopkins, Jones Jr, Johnson, Tarver, Woods are either retiring or almost there.

I'm not sold on Dawson yet. He had an amazing victory against Adamek, but hasn't built off of it. He barely beat old man Johnson and even though he smoked Tarver the first time, the 2nd time was competitive.. it shouldn't have been.

I believe in Tavoris Cloud and look forward to a potential showdown between him and Dawson to determine the best at 175.. sometime next year.

Who knows.. after the SUper 6 tournament, we could even see Kessler and Froch moving up to Light Heavy, especially if they are successful.

Its the guys at 168 that should move up to 175, especially guys like Froch, Kessler and Bute.

Would like to see him step up before i decide what i think of him. A clinton woods fight would have been nice to see if he's good enough but he's retired now unfortunately.

with Hopkins occupying the ring tile and fighting everybody except LHW,
Erdei holding the linear title deep into the German forests, Dawson ducking his mandatories and fighting Tarver and Johnson all aver again this division
have no bright future ... except the Cloud maybe, but it yet have to be seen.

Cleverly is my fav. Britsh prospect atm....the improvements he has made recently have installed alot of my confidence on him....he still has many improvements to make but he seems incredibly switched on and leaving Enzo seems to have done him a world of good.

Thought he looked great in his last fight.

He made the fight a little harder for himself then he should have but the talent is definitely there

Why? All the fights are at 168. Only guys who can't hack it in the talent rich SMW division will be moving up, ala Pascal.

I'm amazed at how Gabriel Campillo still gets no respect. He beats both Garay and Shumenov in their own backyards (and nearly beat Murat in his), and doesn't even get a mention.

Yathomas Riley is another American worth a mention, though he's not young for someone who just turned pro.

Cleverly's the best looking of the prospect types, IMO.

Igor Mikhalkin is another one. I've never seen him fight, but 10-0 and already has wins over a title challenger (granted, DeAndrey Abron) and one of the finalists of that French tournament.
