many of the top flight young Americans haven't come up through the Olympic program, as they have in the past. But that's a testament that there is a lot of talent out there. Guys like Andrade will still make their impact.

It's without question that the US has the most advanced young fighters of any country or continent, for that matter, in the world. Anybody that can't see that, is frankly, gay.

 

Based upon what? There are few pro gyms and the amateur program is in the toilet. So where does the strength come from?

Look at the current ratings and then say that. Also find these "most advanced young fighters" in the amateur gyms IF you can even find one. Unless of course you are talking about mixed martial arts. If that is the case those gyms outnumber boxing gyms 50-1.

 

There is not one European rated in the Pound for Pound top 10. there is not one European that is considered the champion at any weight class below heavyweight.

It's a country of 300 million. Even with relatively few boxing gyms (and most cities of some size still have at least a couple) the absolute number of American boxers being produced is large.

Boxing is experiencing something of a resurgence in the US in the past few years. I know more people who have never watched boxing that are chatting me up about big fights on the horizon, or telling me about fights they just watched. It's a good sign.

America won't be as dominant in boxing as it was in 30 or 40 years ago, but that's just common sense. There are far more competitors from other countries entering the pool. Of course things will balance out some. That's true of any sport that becomes truly global, be it Hockey, or Soccer, or Basketball or Boxing. But to say that the US will slip into insignificant, or that, hilariously, it will be England and Europe that will dominate all weightclasses, is just silly. Even if the US didn't exist you'd still have Central America and Asia with strong boxing traditions. Russia is supposed to be this sleeping giant, but when the Chinese decide they want to impose themselves on boxing at the Olympics the way they have in other sports, then watch out.
