Where do you see the sport going in the near or even distant future.

Will popularity grow? Will different countries begin to dominate? Will there be another boxer that transcends the sport?

IMO popularity will pretty much stay the same... the traditional powerhouses will continue (USA,MExico,PR) to dominate but they would be challenged by up and coming countries like (European countries esp in the HW division, Philippines)

someone that transcends the sport? i dont see one coming in the near future specially with the rise of MMA.

    Japan,the USA,Germany,England,and.................... .
Due to free tv and big money pro boxing in Germany is getting bigger and bigger so that it will probably be the most important pro market on this globe.(at least for the fighters of the upper echelon of the heavier weight divisions).
There are a lot of good fighters in England and Mexico, but English box scence lacks media attention and Mexico doesnt have enough big bucks to attract top fightes or stage big fights.
Countries like Italy,France,Spain, and most other european countries are out of the game.No money,no media attention,no interest in pro boxing at all+a lack of local fighters.
