Hi, I was wondering if someone could answer this question. I read that Gamboa 'defected' from the amateurs and then turned pro. But why did he have to 'defect' - could he have not just turned pro anyway? Also, why has someone like Rigondeaux turned pro quite late (although he did win two Olympic medals to be fair)?
