Hey, Gamboa is my favorite fighter, I've been following him since he defected. I like other Cuban boxers as well, but I think some of you guys are doing them a disservice. You're turning away open minded fans with delusional posts here and on bscene. And it's hard to get a gauge on Cuban prospects when so many of those posts are so low on credibility. This is a minority, but a vocal one. Some of the less frequent posters, or those that mostly stick to this thread, are quite level headed, and a great source of info on the Cubans. Props to these guys, I have a post for them below.

 

Here are some guys I haven't seen, curious about their potential: Salinas, Rances, Santana, Consuegra, Collado, Luis Garcia.

These are the guys I've seen, other than the big 4. Not sure any have star potential, but most seem like good prospects:

Luis Ortiz: Looked bad against a cruiser bum, was not impressed.
Sullivan Barrera: Looked good the one time I've seen him, would like to see more.
Ugas: Looks very fragile, might benefit from moving up (or not, if he's plain chinny).
Franco: Needs to stop slapping with his punches, hope he has more power than he's shown.
Mike Perez: Looked better than I expected in prizefighter. Could be a player when the Klits are retired. Still handicapped by his height.
Dorticos: Haven't seen much, seemed crude, but his opponent was no challenge.
Lester Gonzalez: Not a prospect, but I love this guy.
Yudel Johnson: Smooth boxer, maybe lacks a little power to be a force at SWW.
Despaigne: People are too harsh on this guy, he's still a very good prospect, just ran into a better one. Wish he had more power, but could win a title at some point.
Socarras: Looked pretty reckless in a previous fight. Haven't seen his last bout, but not surprised he struggled. Very young, has power, but no amateur background and bad defense at this point.
Yan Bartehelemy: Like this guy, hope he has a productive career. I can see him as an "featherfisted opponent" for a hyped prospect in a vacant title bout, boxing his way to a decision.

Any opinion on these? Other guys to look out for?

 

the big problem with boxers defecting from Cuba is how they deal with living in a new country.They are separated from their families and facing a new life full of temptations they never dreamt of before.Freedom,money,women,parties...and else.Some of them( i have known a few)are happy with the fact of making some shitty money without much sacrifice and rather to enjoy their life.
Im not saying all of them are championship material,but many of them with the proper guidance,discipline and dedication can go to higher places.
Imagine if someone with Gamboa and Rigondeaux quality are sometimes hard to match because they dont have a solid "fan base", what's gonna happen with those cubans that are at a lower level?...the world of boxing we have seen how corrupted is.Some fights have been already fixed,incompetents and corrupts judges,promoters protecting their stars making them fight easy fights.
As a cuban boxing fan im aware of all of this, im not a delusional fan.I want them to win but i dont worship them.Im proud of the cuban boxing history but i dont diminish the history of others.I feel that Lara was as robbed against Williams as Santa cruz was against Casamayor.
appreciate your support for our boxers, hope one day Cuba will finally be free and wont be only the few able to defect the one fighting as a pro.

 

Does anyone know about who " Leosvy Mayedo " is? I just saw that he is Cuban, just fought his pro debut the other day but don't know anything about him. Is he from the Cuban amateur system or a Cubanito raised in the USA?

In my opinion lightwelter Angelo Santana, super feather Rances Barthelemy and cruiser Yuniesky Gonzalez very interesting . All three young and talented.
