Meanwhile....Richard Abril, who was dismissed as just a light-hitting club fighting a few years ago, is kicking ass with a vengeance. Nice, dominating performance against Rios last weekend. Perfect boxing.

Too bad the powers-that-be in boxing didn't want to see Rios beaten.

 

Another question: now that Luis Ortiz has been moved into the alphabet top-15, who will be his first "live" opponent? Ortiz needs a signature win to get popular acceptance.

 

It seems like the cubans that came some years ago been divided in two groups
group1 the sucessfull fighters who get fights and winning in an impressive way
group 2 those who lose a fight or two or not are impressive and almost never get more fights

Fighters like Fiz,Consuegra, Yoelvis Gamboa,Kiko Martinez,Pairol, Yan Barthelemy and even Socarraz been out of action after his draw. Fiz and Consuegra won alle their fights

But the general picture is that its hard for cubans to get fights in Miami these days

I for one am shocked to find out Vilier Quinones just fought again. I heard he was out for good.

 

Yes lets hope Vilier Quinones can continue his carriere. SMW is an exiting division

Acquinity Sports inks Glendy Hernandez

Acquinity Sports has announced the signing of Cuban heavyweight Glendy “The Guantanamo Giant” Hernandez (7-0, 3 KOs) this week from their Deerfield Beach, Florida headquarters. The 6’6 Hernandez will go straight to work when he appears in a 6-round bout on Acquinity’s “Dominican Domination II” card from The Seminole Hard Rock Live on May 18th. Acquinity boxing promoter Henry Rivalta announced: “Gary Jonas (Acquinity owner) and I are very excited to add a heavyweight to our roster. Glendy, under trainer Herman Caicedo, can go a long way. He’ll get an up-close, personal chance to train with Shannon Briggs, who will show him a few tricks.” Acquinity’s 10-bout card from the Hard Rock will be their first show from the Hollywood casino and third of this year. Hollywood resident and welterweight prospect Ed “The Lion” Paredes (30-3-1, 20 KOs) will headline against former light welterweight champion “Vicious” Vivian Harris (29-7-2, 19 KOs).

 

Glendy Hernandez was training with El Tigre before, but I saw him in the gym today and I think Herman Caicedo is working out really good as Glendy's new Coach. I'd love to see Glendy go far. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

 

Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan are up for a shot at the WBC junior middleweight title currently held by Canelo Alvarez, as the sanctioning body has ordered what it's calling a final eliminator for the title opportunity

Headlining the card will be Cuban defector Yudel Jhonson (12-0, 8 KOs), a 2004 Olympic silver medalist and southpaw, against Freddy Hernandez (30-2, 20 KOs) of Mexico in a scheduled 10-round junior middleweight bout. Also in televised bouts, Sweden's Badou Jack (10-0, 8 KOs), a 2008 Olympian, will face Alexander Brand (17-0, 15 KOs) of Colombia in an eight-round super middleweight bout, with junior lightweight Rances Barthelemy (15-0, 11 KOs), also from Cuba, opening the show against Mexico's Aalan Martinez (12-1-1, 8 KOs) in a scheduled eight-rounder
