Cuban fourth seed Yasnier Toledo Lopez, silver medallist at the AIBA World Boxing Championships Baku 2011, took time to get into his stride against China’s Qiang Liu in the last Lightweight (60kg) contest of the session. Tentative in the first, the 21-year-old southpaw from Cuba was showing a lot of respect for his opponent who had looked very accomplished in his previous fight. Liu was standing firm to the unrelenting attacks of Toledo Lopez but the Cuban did enough to take the bout 14:10 and set up a meeting with Zhailauov in the next phase of the competition.

Former Contender series star Grady Brewer (30-14, 16 KOs) won by fifth round disqualification over Giorbis Barthelemy (25-10-2, 10 KOs) in a bout for the IBO Inter-Continental jr. middleweight title on Saturday night at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, Georgia. After a quick start by Barthelemy in the first two rounds, he capitalized his success with a straight left that dropped Grady in the third. Grady responded well to being dropped by increasing his aggressiveness. In the fourth is when things got weird. As Grady moved forward trying to land haymakers Barthelemy used an illegal hand swipe to Grady’s legs that dropped the Contender series champ. After getting deducted a point for his illegal tactic in the fourth Bathelemy, it only went downhill from there. In the fifth, during a clinch, Barthelemy locked into Grady’s neck with a vicious bite. After realizing the transaction referee Brian Stutts immediately disqualified Barthelemy

Bob Arum said Lara-Martirosyan could land on either Top Rank's Sept. 15 card featuring RING middleweight champion Sergio Martinez and WBC beltholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the Oct. 20 clash between WBO junior featherweight titleholder Nonito Donaire and four-division titlewinner Jorge Arce, or what is expected to be a Nov. 10 welterweight rematch between Manny Pacquiao and either Tim Bradley or Juan Manuel Marquez.

"Those are the three possibilities" for Lara-Martirosyan, said Arum.

    Miami Warfare II Open Workouts

A well-attended media workout was held at Thump Fight Gym in Miami for four of the fighters scheduled for the upcoming Miami Warfare II boxing event on Saturday, August 18, at the MACC at the Doubletree Hotel in Miami, Florida.

Main-event boxer Breidis Prescott and undercard participants Roberto Acevedo, Yunieski González and Leosvy Mayedo performed light training routines for the assembled media. Miami via Colombia’s Prescott (25-4, 18 KOs) will face New York’s Francisco “Gato” Figueroa (20-4-1, 13 KOs) in the 10-round main event and Cuban super featherweight sensation Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy will face dangerous spoiler Alejandro “Soma” Rodriguez (14-6, 7 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico. The two main fights will also be televised live on Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo Tecate.
