Santana-Garcia in Nov 16 Shobox opener

On Thursday, Hall of Fame promoter Don King will announce a Showtime doubleheader from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida for November 16. The card will feature undefeated junior middleweight contender Omar “Oh!” Henry (12-0-1, 9 KOs) against “King” James de la Rosa (21-1, 12 KOs). In the co-feature, cuban lightweight Angelo “La Cobra” Santana (13-0, 10 KOs) will face fellow unbeaten Juan “Johnny” Garcia (13-0, 8 KOs). Local favorite Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez (22-1-1, 13 KOs) will also appear on the card in a domestically non-televised bout against an opponent to be named

With the success of Pablo Hernandez and Juan Gomez fighting in Germany, I really feel some of the Cuban boxers should consider Germany here home base. Cuban Americans boxing fans are only in Miami and that is too small. That is all.

. Regular champion (WBA) Guillermo Rigondeaux will await the winner of the vacant interim title match between Scott Quigg and Rendall Munroe, which is a rematch

Oye Arve lie. You think Santana can avenge the loss Garcia handed his fellow countryman Yordenis Ugas back in March?

Santana and Garcia have very similar records, but in my honest opinion Garcia has faced the better comp.

Should be a good fight and solid test for Santana, well really for each other.

It was a close and competitive fight that really could of went either way. No way a robbery, with all due respect mi hermano, It wasn't even hometown being that Garcia is from Michigan and this fight was in Arizona. I would have to see the fight again, but from what I remember Garcia landed the more telling shots.

You think Santana can beat Garcia, or will he be another victim. By the way this fight will be in Santana's backyard.

Donaire: "I said Rigondeaux needed to fight some bigger names, not some longer names."

    Usmanee-Barthelemy ready to collide

Battle of undefeateds kicks off 2013

Look for 2013 to start off with a bang as Canadian super-featherweight Arash Usmanee (20-0 10KO) travels to Miami Florida to meet Rances Barthelemy (17-0 11KO) in a battle of undefeated fighters at the Magic City Casino and televised on ESPN. “The contract is signed and the fight approved by ESPN,” a happy Douggy Berneche, manager for Usmanee told FightNews Thursday evening.

The fight fulfills the two criteria that Berneche has been searching for his talented fighter, televised exposure and a name opponent who should have people standing up and taking notice should the #8 (WBA) Usmanee prevail. The 5’11″ Barthelemy is ranked #5 by the IBF and was actually in Canada one year ago when promoter Leon Margules brought him in to be part of the Glen Johnson versus Lucian Bute undercard, stopping Alejandro Barrera that night, a common opponent for both fighters. “He’s a good prospect but I don’t think he’s ever been tested,” said Berneche

By Jack Tarpey: As if from out of nowhere Mike “the rebel” Perez is back, after months of probing the web for any updates whatsoever of what has become an enigma of the heavyweight division he finally re-appears and might I add he has appeared to have bagged himself quite a match up in former WBA champion Ruslan “white Tyson” Chagaev, Perez was relatively unknown before last year’s Prizefighter tournament where in the words of Julius Caeser ‘he came, he saw, he conquered.‘

After his sensational performance in the Prizefighter tournament the stage was set for him get a shot at becoming a global star, I mean how hard can it be to market a Mike Tyson-esque Cuban heavyweight Prizefighter champion, fighting under Irish colours and who has adapted a fighting style of never playing it safe and always coming to fight, he simply enters the ring looking to overwhelm his opponents with his staggering high punch rate, this sort of exciting style makes for great viewing and should no doubt attract colossal attention in the heavyweight division, as long as he can get the results of course.

Unfortunately after the Prizefighter tournament Mike was only able to follow up with 2 fights against 2nd tier opponents picking up the win in both of course, but without claiming stoppages, after that he was been in obscurity for about a year, rumours are due to injury and visa problems.

Surely if he can come back and achieve a positive result against a former world champion then he could quickly see himself in line for a shot at regular WBA champ Alexander Povetkin, as Povetkin very cleverly manages to dodge the giants of the division and stick to fighters who resemble his own height, one thing for sure if Mike Perez does manage to get through Chagaev we can certainly add another name to potential world rulers once the Klitschko’s decide to hang up the gloves, don’t get me wrong
