Unheralded Cuban-born welterweight Damian “Devo” Frias (19-6-1, 10 KOs) has an opportunity this Thursday (April 4th) in New York City to turn his career around, if he can upset former NABA champion Ionut “Jo Jo” Dan Ion (30-2, 17 KOs) in an eight-round co-main event as part of the fan favorite “Broadway Boxing” at the historic Roseland Ballroom in midtown Manhattan

    Gamboa-Burgos on HBO June 8

Promoter Fifty Cent of SMS Promotions and Thompson Boxing are close to finalizing a deal for interim WBA jr welterweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (22-0, 16 KOs) and former WBC Silver jr lightweight champion Juan Carlos Burgos (30-1-1, 20 KOs) to headline a June 8th HBO Championship Boxing card at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. According to our source, the camps of both fighters are onboard and it’s just a matter tying up the loose ends. An announcement should come next week.

Up-and-coming lightweight Angelo "La Cobra" Santana will face late substitute Bahodir Mamadjonov on Friday night at the Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, promoter Don King announced Monday.

Santana (14-0, 11 KOs), a 24-year-old southpaw and former Cuban amateur standout now living in Miami, was supposed to face Carlos Cardenas (20-6-1, 13 KOs) of Venezuela for a vacant interim 135-pound world title in the main event of the "ShoBox: The New Generation" card (10 p.m. ET/PT).

That fight was made official less than two weeks ago, but Cardenas suffered a shoulder injury on Thursday, was eventually ruled out and then replaced over the weekend by Mamadjonov (12-1, 8 KOs), a native of Uzbekistan living in Houston. The fight will still headline the card, but will be a scheduled 10-round nontitle bout rather than a 12-rounder for the interim belt.
