Irish manager Gary Hyde will be in Los Angeles over the next four weeks, and among his goals is to land an October fight for junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Although Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KOs) earned the RING, WBA and WBO titles with an HBO-televised unanimous decision over Nonito Donaire in April, Hyde said it has been difficult to find him an opponent. Rigondeaux is promoted by Top Rank.

"We are looking at an October date for sure, and we're just looking for the right spot for him right now. He's the unified champion, but the WBA has said that they're not going to push for him to make a mandatory defense, and he's quite entitled to make a voluntary defense of the WBO belt, because he just won it," said Hyde of Rigondeaux, a two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist.

"So he wants to fight all of the top guys, but there is no one out there who wants to fight him. Carl Frampton doesn't want to fight him. Scotty Quigg doesn't want to fight him. So we're just looking for any opponent that the crowd would like and that the public would like and that HBO would like, but there is nobody stepping up. I've heard that Joseph Agbeko wants to fight him, but that's only all talk. Right now, we're not close to tying anyone up."

Although Hyde had expressed during one recent interview, the notion of having Rigondeaux, a Miami resident, make an appearance on Miguel Cotto's Oct. 5 return to the ring, either in Miami or Orlando.

Although Top Rank CEO Bob Arum acknowledged that Rigondeaux might be a consideration for the Cotto card, he declined to spectulate, adding that Top Rank President Todd duBoef is handling the logistics of that show.

Would Rigondeaux like a rematch with Donaire?

"Of course, but I don't think that he would take it. Would you?" said Hyde. "I mean, the next time, it would be easier, because Rigondeaux knows every piece of information on Donaire. Donaire would not have a chance ever again of beating Rigondeaux."

Hyde also manages unbeaten junior welterweight Levan Ghvamichava (10-0, 8 KOs), of Miami, and junior lightweight Iain Weaver (1-0), of the United Kingdom. Ghvamichava, who signed with Top Rank last month, will next face Alberto Herrera on Saturday

...ahh yes, he has the same terrible opponent as Sullivan Barrera and Alexei Collado last weekend, TBA ...., as usual the formidable fighter didn"t show up, and both Cubans were sidelined ... Nothing new, business as usual ...

A pair of Miami-based Cuban fighters, junior featherweight Yoandris Salinas (20-0-1, 13 KOs) and heavyweight Luis Ortiz (19-0, 16 KOs), have signed with Golden Boy, matchmaker Robert Diaz told ESPN.com.

Diaz said the company made a deal with Dream Team Promotions to come on board as the fighters' co-promoter. Salinas, a junior featherweight, is set to face Scott Quigg for a vacant belt in the fall in England. Ortiz, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound southpaw, is already 34 and hasn't fought since November 2011.

"Salinas has a good shot with Quigg," Diaz said. "He's aggressive and strong and very fast. Ortiz is also fast and aggressive. He moves like a light heavyweight, not like a heavyweight."

With the possibility of adding Trout-Lara on the mayweather-Canelo undercard does this give it more PPV buys or does it stay the same?

That fight is not being added to the card, according to Richard Schaefer. He told me it is not even a fight for which he has any discussion for whatsoever with either side. He said it is merely one fight that was thought up at the office but there has been no real conversation about actually making it at this point although that could change down the road

He isn't a big 122 pounder. He is 5'5, and he doesn't come into the ring as a junior welter like Donaire did.

Undefeated WBA #2 rated heavyweight Luis Ortiz (20-0, 17 KOs) scored another spectacular knockout when he sent Joseph Rabotte (11-26-1, 3 KOs) through the ropes with a crisp three-punch combination toward the end of the second round last Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina. Although Ortiz has not been able to get any of the top ten heavyweights in the ring with him as a pro, he and his team believe his #2 ranking in the WBA coupled with his southpaw stance and the fact that he was considered one of the best heavyweight prospects when he was an amateur should get die-hard boxing fans excited about him and lead to opportunities to prove himself against the best. Rabotte, on the other hand, suffered his tenth consecutive loss.

“It was one of the most brutal KOs that I’ve ever seen,” said Dino Spencer, trainer of Ortiz and co-owner of the legendary 5th St. Gym in Miami Beach, FL. “We really are ready for anyone. This kid has walked through these guys as a pro and is more experienced than nearly every other heavyweight out there. People who know boxing should be excited

This week’s edition of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights will feature undefeated former interim featherweight titlist Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (22-0, 16 KOs) against Luis “La Estrella” Franco (11-1, 7 KOs) in the 10-round main event from Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. Fortuna, trained by Pablo Sarmiento (who also trains Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez), is coming off a first-round knockout win over Miguel Zamudio, while Franco, a 2004 Olympian for Cuba, is looking to rebound from a 12-round split decision loss to Mauricio Munoz.
