Collado was a super bantam. He came back after a long layoff two weight classes north of that. I had written him off already.

Ah, hadn't realized that. So he was, per his record.

Still, that is really no excuse.

Daniel Ponce De Leon was a bantamweight, carried his power up to lightweight.

Morales was a career super bantam and still fought on even terms against welterweights eons past his prime.

Countless other examples. Climbing 13lbs over six years with a schedule that was, let's face it, until last night very soft before & since the layoff, shouldn't be that great an inhibition to someone with as much potential as he supposedly had.

He towered over Salka, weighed in a pound more and certainly looked to have rehydrated more (albeit mostly with flab).

This wasn't a poor little fella getting manhandled...just a lazy slob who clearly didn't find it worth mustering the effort in camp to preserve his zero (which along with his "defecting Cuban sensation" mystique, had been his golden ticket - now shredded)

Yes, he got clocked nicely and didn't seem to recover well. Up until then he was looking fair, which isn't saying much since it happened in the second round I think. Maybe he's just not a fighter. Or maybe his conditioning isn't good enough to box while also getting hit himself.

I agree it's not an excuse and he couldn't have fought at a lower weight had he wanted to. I'm always worried when Cubans move up in weight. Collado didn't move up because he was training boxing hard, that's for sure. Hence why I stopped paying much attention to him. To be the best you simply have to train like the best. The same with Ugas when he came over. He had just moved up to 64 kg after going whole tournaments at lightweight when he became pro and then suddnely barely made welter. His first loss came as he had slowly worked himself down towards 140 again. I don't think he was training hard. Solis looking for clean hits and not putting in any work against Thompson is another example. The other irish Cubans are also not putting in the work from what one hears.

Maybe Collado never had it but I think he could have done more. A couple of years too late though.

Crawford will face Gamboa on June 28 in the main event of an HBO-televised card at the 18,300-seat CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
This fight is just as good, maybe better than Garcia-Gamboa," Arum said. "We just couldn't live with Mikey's financial demands. A lot of it was fueled by other people, who told him that Gamboa was getting $1.5 million and he was only getting $750,000, which was ludicrous and wrong. But we made a good fight here. Gamboa does have a lot of power, but like most Cuban fighters he's very cautious and a very good boxer. Crawford is a superb boxer
