Jr. featherweight Enrique Quevado (16-7-1, 10KOs) came to fight as he dropped previously unbeaten Yoandris Salinas (20-1-2, 13 KOs) in round four and twice in round five, leaving referee Russell Mora no choice but to stop the bout at 2:56 with Salinas on the canvas

The semi-main event looked to be fireworks, if the pot-weigh-in stare down was any indication. Super middleweights Jerry Odom and Vilier Quinonez stepped of the scales on Thursday and locked eyes barley an inch apart from each other for nearly three minutes straight. Pride and two undefeated records were on the line in this one, as well as the vacant WBC FECARBOX title at 168 lbs. Odom boasted a scary 11-0, 10 knockout record coming in, albeit against ten opponents of which only two had winning records. Among Quinonez’ five stoppage victims in his eight wins, only two of them had winning records as well! So each guy was going to be, on paper at least, the best the other had faced to date. It was apparent from the get go that the southpaw (Quinonez) – orthodox (Odom) matchup was going to be problematic as an accidental clash of heads opened a cut on Quinonez’ left eyebrow. Referee Charlie Fitch overruled himself after initially calling the cut due to a punch, then ruling head butt after glancing at the replay monitor. While it appeared Qinonez couldn’t match Odom’s power style of fighting, he tried to use his cute lefty style and busy hands to offset anything Odom did, with limited success. In the fourth, Odom landed two straight rights to a retreating Quinonez’ head, dropping him along the ropes on his butt. Quinonez beat the count and despite there being over two minutes left, incredibly, he landed several good punches to a tiring Odom’s head to stave off any further danger. In the sixth, Odom suffered his own cut left eye due to another accidental clash of heads. With Quinonez holding his own and the result in doubt, Odom took the decision out of the judges’ hands in the seventh. A series of lefts and rights sent Quinonez reeling across the ring and as referee Fitch stepped in to stop it, a final right sent him down where Fitch waved it off at 2:25 of round seven. A gallant effort by Quinonez in losing his first at 8-1, 5 KOs and lots of resolve shown by Odom in moving to 12-0, 11 KOs.

The WBO has given the camps of WBA/WBO super bantamweight world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux and WBO #1 rated Chris Avalos 30 days to negotiate Rigondeaux’s next defense of the WBO belt. If no deal is reached, a purse bid will be ordered. Minimum acceptable bid is $100,000. Rigondeaux is coming off a first round KO of Sod Kokietgym on July 19 in Macao.

In 2006 the southpaw beat teenage star Roniel Iglesias in the semis of the bantamweight national championships but lost the final to superstar Guillermo Rigondeaux 4:13.

He went up to featherweight and won the national title vs Ivan Oñate 21:18. At the PanAms 2007 he beat Jesús Cuéllar (Arg), Nicholas Walters (Jam), Orlando Rizo and Abner Cotto (PR) in the final 7:5.

He lost his national title 2008 to archrival Iván Oñate but was sent to the qualifier where he qualified for the Olympics by beating Robson Conceiçao and Luis Enrique Porozo. In Beijing he beat Prince Octopus Dzanie 11:2, Enkhzorig Zorigtbaatar 10:9 but lost to Shahin Imranov 16:18 and didn't medal.

In 2009 he went up to lightweight but lost the national final to Lorenzo Sotamayor. He was sent regardless to the 2009 World Amateur Boxing Championships where he beat two unknowns then ran into favorite Domenico Valentino and lost 5:10.
