Unbeaten light heavyweight Sullivan Barrera (15-0, 10 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over faded former world champion Jeff Lacy (27-6, 18 KOs). Barrera dropped Lacy with a right hand in round one, then punished him until the bout was stopped at 2:05 of round four. Lacy was game, but didn’t look to have much left at age 37.

WBC #4 ranked heavyweight Mike Perez (21-1, 13 KOs) obliterated Darnell “The Ding-A-Ling Man” Wilson (25-19, 21 KOs) on Thursday night in The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, California. Perez sent Wilson to the canvas with the very first punch of the fight, a crushing right hook. Wilson rose on unsteady legs only to be sent to the canvas twice more in the first round. Somehow, Wilson survived the onslaught but a perfectly landed left cross by Perez sent Wilson down for good and ended the bout at 0:59 of the second round. Perez looked as fit as he ever has been at 231 pounds and he’s now being trained by Robert Garcia.

2008 Cuban Olympian Robert Alfonso has signed a managerial contract with Si Stern’s SHS Boxing Management. The 28-year-old heavyweight prospect, who is undefeated in four professional fights, lives in Miami where he is trained by Orlando Cuellar. The 6’5, 235-pound Alfonso’s professional career has been relatively slow to develop because he is a free agent who didn’t defect to the United States until 2011. Alfonso won a decision over United States Olympic super heavyweight Michael Hunter, Jr., 9-1, to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.

In an upset, undefeated but unheralded light heavyweight Craig Baker (16-0, 12 KOs) scored a spectacular second round TKO over WBC #3 rated Humberto Savigne (12-2, 9 KOs). Baker connected with a barrage of punches that dropped Savigne on his face. A groggy Savigne got up, reeled all around the ring, and the fight was stopped. Time was 1:58.

In a rematch, heavyweight Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (40-5, 27 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over former Olympic gold medalist Odlanier Solis (20-3, 13 KOs) on Friday night at the Gloria Sports Hotel in Antalya, Turkey. Thompson outworked Solis throughout the fight and got the win when Solis quit at the start of round nine. The 272lb Solis actually got off to a good start, but quickly ran out of gas. Thompson won the vacant WBC Continental Americas heavyweight title.

Almost as soon as former junior lightweight titlist Rances Barthelemy (21-0, 12 KOs), who recently gave up his 130-pound crown to move up to lightweight, was added to the March 26 on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” card in Hialeah, Florida, he was removed from the show over the weekend because the network and promoter could not agree on an acceptable opponent.
