anyone heard the news that Yordenis Uggas just defected? im hearing that he has and should be official pretty soon

i got the news from duquense who is one of the best sources for cuban boxing coming out of miami, he said he got the info first hand from the source. he had warned me that this was going to happen very soon about 2 months ago and just last night he leaked this info in a cuban boxing forum, he said he is out of cuba but not in the states just yet, it'll probably be official this week

just in case ppl are not familiar with duquense he has a very popular account on youtube for boxing and was also the first one to leak that luis franco had defected to miami about a year ago

Ugas has great potential. He was one of the best fighters left in Cuba after Rigo defected, and at 23, he has a lot more years of his prime than Gamboa or Rigondeaux, who turned pro rather late. I love Yordenis' lead right hand, it will be his money punch in the pros. He's also technically very sound with excellent handspeed, sharp reflexes and good power. I think he'll go far given proper dedication, though I read he was dropped pretty badly back in 2005 in the world championships (which he went on winning), so I guess his chin will be a question mark until properly tested, but he was only 19 back then.

Anyway, I found this gem of the Cuban team in the semifinal and final at the 2005 world cup, great fights!
