Yuniesky Gonzalez: They robbed me of this fight

Despite outlanding and outworking former world champion Jean Pascal in punch stat numbers, light heavyweight Yuniesky Gonzalez suffered his first loss as a pro by unanimous decision on Saturday night in Las Vegas. “When I heard it was a unanimous decision, I knew it was for me. I feel I hurt Pascal numerous times. He has the experience to play games. They robbed me of this fight, they robbed my team, they robbed the Cuban boxing fans. Pascal was a walk in the park. I am looking for better fights. I would like to fight Kovalev or I would also like a rematch. I’ll fight anyone my promoter matches me up with.”

Gonzalez’s promoter Joe DeGuardia added “It was a thriller tonight. I am proud in the performance of Yuniesky Gonzalez. When he came up to me crying after the fight, this is the first time I am really disgusted in the sport on the perspective on the judging. You know what happened in that fight tonight. Just use your eyes. To be certain, I think Yuniesky deserves Kovalev. Yuniesky wants to fight the best.”

Jean Pascal didn’t attend the postfight press conference, but his team was present. “Pascal hurt his hand right hand in the third round and had to go to the hospital,” Pascal’s manager Greg Leon said. “Of course he feels he won the fight. The fight became more difficult with him hurting his hand. Jean is not the kind to make excuses. I think Gonzalez’ stock goes up after this one.”

Word on the Curb: Luis Ortiz vs By-By Jennings not happening. Jennings made about 1M his last fight. Out of the budget for #GolovkinLemieux.

. @GaryShawBoxing told me he got offer for @BYJennings to face Luis Ortiz on #GGGLemieux PPV. He'll talk to manager James Prince about it.

I really hope they can work out @BYJennings vs. Luis Ortiz for the #GGGLemieux PPV. Very good heavyweight fight & meaningful for the winner.

Heavyweight banger Luis Ortiz is also going to be on the card (october 17). But, unfortunately, he will not be facing contender Bryant Jennings. Golden Boy offered him the fight through promoter Gary Shaw. But Shaw told ESPN.com on Friday that even though he would have liked to make the fight, Jennings and manager James Prince turned down the offer because they did not think it was for enough money. After losing a one-sided decision to champion Wladimir Klitschko in April, this seemed like a great opportunity for Jennings to come back and re-establish himself immediately. Now, it remains to be seen what else is available to him for the rest of the year because I don’t think there is going to be room for him on HBO for the remainder of 2015.

Oh, well. Easy come, easy go.

Eric Gomez, Golden Boy’s vice president, told ESPN.com that Ortiz will remain on the card and that he had a quality backup plan in mind, although he did not divulge the opponent he wants.

Give me Luis Ortiz! Great speed, power and techniques combined!

Should be in the top 10 for sure! Would love to see him against Teper or Browne.

King, think Pascal blew his chances at a Krusher rematch? I thought he lost rather handily
Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (12:31 PM)

I don't think he blew it but he didn't help it. I thought Gonzalez clearly won and was robbed. I'd rather see Krusher give Gonzalez the opportunity.
