    • When heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings declined an offer to face Luis “King Kong” Ortiz on Oct. 17 in one of the HBO PPV bouts on the undercard of the much-anticipated Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux middleweight unification fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, Eric Gomez, Golden Boy’s vice president, told ESPN.com that Ortiz will remain on the card and that he had a quality backup plan in mind. Gomez did not want to discuss the backup plan but, according to sources with knowledge of the offer, Golden Boy is trying to secure former world titleholder Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21 KOs) as the opponent for Ortiz (22-0, 19 KOs), which is an even more attractive match than one against Jennings. Stiverne’s last fight was in January, when he lost a decision and his world title to Deontay Wilder.

Next week, August 15, not less than 5 WBC titles will be contested in Miami, USA.
In this case it is difficult to talk about a main event but the most promising bout of the evening looks to be the one for the vacant WBC International Silver super-bantamweight title between 22 year old Cuban born Hairon Socarras and Hanzel Martinez from Mexico. Socarras is unbeaten with a record of 14-0-1(10) while the hard hitting Martinez is 22-2-0(17)

Undefeated super bantamweight standout Manuel “Tino” Avila (18-0, 8 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over former world title contender Yoandris “El Nino” Salinas from Cuba (21-2-2, 14 KOs). Avila dropped Salinas in round two. Salinas remained on his stool at the end of round six citing a hand injury.

One of the other bouts in the works for the pay-per-view portion of the card is a heavyweight fight between Cuban puncher Luis "King Kong" Ortiz (22-0, 19 KOs) and former world titleholder Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21 KOs), who would be fighting for the first time since losing a unanimous decision and his title to Deontay Wilder on Jan. 17. The fight has been agreed to but the contracts have not yet been signed.

The Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux HBO Pay-Per-View card on Oct. 17 at New York's Madison Square Garden got a big addition on Tuesday with the formal announcement of a terrific fight -- flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez against former unified titlist Brian Viloria.

A third fight for the card -- another very good one -- has been agreed to, this one between heavyweight bangers Luis Ortiz (22-0, 19 KOs) and former titlist Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21 KOs). However, agreeing and getting the contracts signed are two entirely different things in this crazy business of boxing.

According to Ortiz promoter Golden Boy, the Ortiz side is good to go and has signed. Golden Boy also said it has an agreement with Stiverne promoter Don King. Camille Estephan, Stiverne's manager, also told ESPN.com that their side has agreed to all terms and is excited about the fight.

King, however, is a different story, according to Estephan. He said even though he has emails in which King has accepted the fight and agreed to terms, he can no longer get King -- nor can Golden Boy -- to send them the signed agreement. They say it has been several days since the deal was agreed to but that King has gone silent.

"King agreed to everything. He will make money and doesn't have to do a thing. We all want this fight and he agreed and then all of a sudden he stopped responding. Just no response," Estephan told ESPN.com on Wednesday. "I'm so disappointed with this behavior. Bermane has been training his ass off and needs to get back in the ring. We had a deal and we can't move forward until King signs the contract he agreed to. This is a great fight and one that Bermane wants and that we all want. But where is King? It's really uncalled-for behavior."

King could not be reached for comment.

ringe heavyweight contender Artur Szpilka stopped Yasmany Consuegra from Cuba in the second round of a swing bout after the Tarver-Cunningham main event. Szpilka hurt Consuegra early and Consuegra began complaining of a knee injury. That became worse after he was dropped in the second round. He rose and elected to fight on but when he got to his corner the fight was called off before the third round could begin. Szpilka, who has only lost once, to Bryant Jennings, is now 20-1 with 14 wins by knockout. Consuegra is now 17-2 with 14.

The proposed vacant WBC International Silver super bantamweight title fight between undefeated Cuban Hairon Socarras (14-0-1, 10 KOs) and Hanzel “Rude Boy” Martinez (22-2, 17 KOs) scheduled at the Wynwood Stadium in Miami, Florida, is apparently off after Socarras did not make weight yesterday at the official weigh-in. The fight card is presented by Arena-Box Promotions

Last week, Barrera formally accepted his offer from the IBF to face Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs) for the mandatory position in the IBF. The winner will face WBO, WBA and IBF light heavyweight world champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs).

Main Events CEO, Kathy Duva, who promotes Chilemba, Barrera and Kovalev, said, “We’ve been focused on the light heavyweight division for the past few years. I’m delighted that so many of our efforts are paying off at the same time and that Isaac and Sullivan are finally getting the opportunities that they’ve earned and have been waiting for. Yvon (Michel, who promotes both Beterbiev and Alvarez) and I have a lot to talk about! I’ve reached out for him and expect that we’ll begin negotiations over the weekend.
